My dream job was to be a newspaper reporter. And then I was a newspaper reporter. And it sort of sucked. [My breaking point was interviewing a family after they lost everything in a fire. Not fun].

Then I went to law school — my other dream job was to be a lawyer. The bar exam is preventing that dream from becoming reality. Darn that test!

And so, I'm focusing again on writing. Like you, I'd love to combine my love for writing w/ my love for Disney…but haven't quite figured out how to make that happen.

So here's what I'm hoping…that we both make it on the 2010 Disney Mom's Panel and that experience opens up the doors to our dream jobs!

I hear ya about the money at Disney…I always thought it’d be so cool to get into some sort of managerial position there but it seemed so out of reach. My husband was interested in animation and ‘auditioned’ for Special Effects Animation after befriending an animator (back when the Florida studios were open) who saw his work. He made it to the final cut off but then they wanted 12 people and he was #13 or something like that. Hmm, I should have him blog about that! Anyway, even if he got the job, it would’ve been a pay cut from the IT position he currently held, and now of course that department has been eliminated anyway.

Missile Defense does sound exciting tho! You’re right, Disney is an endless source of inspriation! Thanks again for your comment. ~Z

I wanted to comment here because of the path my “dream job” took. I dearly wanted to design the themed rides for Disney World when I was in school. I went to college to get a degree in Mechanical Engineering specifically for that purpose.

Even though I did get my degree, other factors made me go into the defense industry. The money isn’t there at Disney, and breaking into the Imagineer industry is very difficult. I did dislike my career for awhile, but then I realized I like doing what I am doing. Missile Defense isn’t horrible – I work with physics and computer programming just like I thought I was going to, just on a different thing. True, I have to get my love of making people smile from elsewhere, but otherwise what inspires me is not necessarily necessary for a fulfilling career. I like my job, I get paid really well, and I get to visit WDW when I can. I’m not going to complain about a pretty swell career! Thanks to Disney for the inspiration – that’s what they’re there for.

I guess I never knew how many of us there were out there with similar dreams until I actually applied for the Disney Moms Panel…I can’t imagine how many moms must apply to that!

I hope all our dreams come true some day!

One difference we have, though. I lack the millionaire mama. Must say that bites the big one for me.
