Writing Projects:

I have been creating stories since before I could write. I nurtured my passion in high school and college, where dreams were laid out to write Children's Books. Life however, had different plans. I felt isolated in college and left writing behind. I focused on work and later my wonderful husband and two adorable children - putting my muse on the shelf for a while. I am slowly dipping my toes back into the vast ocean of possibilities and want to share my thoughts and words with you. Here you will find news and information about pieces I've had published, as well as my own self-published zines*. I hope you enjoy my words as much as I love weaving them together.

* What is a zine?

(Pronounced like magazine without the maga) A zine is an independently created publication. It is often created by any means necessary and/or available more often done out of passion for a subject rather than for commercial success. Currently, they are typically photocopied using word processors but there are many out there that utilize offset printing or are hand made with content made using collage, digital photography, silkscreen, litho, hand written creative writing, etc. A zine can be about whatever subject its creator decides upon and done in any style imaginable. Some typical subjects for content are creative writing, comics, personal writings, fan-based writings, science fiction, literature, anthology/art, and review publications, however it is completely open.

The person with access to a photo copier can be writer, publisher, and printer.

Nothing is easy, everything is possible. The quickest method for idea to print is to self-publish. The most control one could have over the content and appearance of a publication is to self-publish.  (taken from alt.geek.net)

NEWS:

I have written a piece for the 2nd issue of the amazing zine compilation - Mamaphiles. Considering issue #1 of this very zine is what inspired me to create my own zine, I am honored and thrilled to be a part of Issue #2. For more information, watch this site or check out Mamaphiles.com.

Zines:

Zanna, Do!

Zanna, Do! was created after a long drought of creativity. I had so much I wanted to write about, so many ideas running around in my head, but something kept me from taking the leap from mind to keyboard. I thought of writing a zine about motherhood, just about my current life, or the struggles I felt throughout the years, but in the end, I figured first I had to figure out why I wanted to write and that's what led to issue #1. I may publish other 'one off' zines on separate topics under another title, but Zanna, Do! will remain my outlet for sharing where I've come from, where I am, and where I plan to go. I hope you enjoy the little pieces of me I've chosen to share.

Issue #2: Currently in production

Roots

Is it about needing to dye my hair? The Alex Haley book and subsequent 1980's mini-series? Those amazing things that bring water and nutrients to plants and trees? Or something more...You'll have to wait and see!

Issue #1: April 2004

When I Grow Up
Reflections on My Dream Job
or
My Life as a Slacker ?

It includes the following topics:

my childhood ideas of a 'dream job' up to my actual jobs over the years

if or how I became a slacker - and what I figured out from all of that

where I hope to go in the future

This issue also features some pictures from my childhood and such, as well as a composition I wrote in 5th grade on the back cover (which is actually more of a design thing, you probably can't read all of it). 32 pages, typed, black & white.

            front cover                      back cover

If you would like to read it, there are still a few copies left. The zine is $2 and includes postage and lots of love.
