You see, I’ve sadly never been to Disneyland, so I have no memories of my own to share from there. I am hoping to change that soon (and if anyone wants to send my family there, we’ll be happy to oblige! 😉 ) because I do think it a sacrilege to have not experienced Walt’s original park and the history there. So rather than bore you with my talking about a place I’d never been, I was just going to let it go.
However, today I happened upon a video from someone who had taken their dad’s old 70’s movies of their visits to Disneyland and transferred them to video. She was apologizing for the quality of the film, but I saw it and thought it was perfect, even fitting in with the 55th Anniversary tagline of “the Happiest Memories on Earth“. Of course, the music helps to bring a nostalgic tear to your eye – even if you haven’t been there, being a fan of Disney parks can transcend location sometimes. I asked her permission to share the video here with all of you, in hopes you would enjoy and appreciate it as much as I do. It’s wonderful to see some now long-gone attractions captured in one family’s vacation. I know there are thousands of others out there with this same wonderful history, all thanks to Walt Disney.
So thank you, GrumpyCD for sharing your family’s Disneyland memories with us:
What are some of your favorite Disneyland memories? Or are you like me and you’re just waiting to create some?
My mom and I went to Disneyland for the Happiest Celebration on Earth. It was the culmination of an absolutely rotten 18 months for us. We got there, and suddenly it wasn’t about the deaths in our family, or me trying to make up schoolwork, or trying to nail down a job as well. We got to talk about our WDW memories. I got to rag on my mom for being a ride chicken. She told me about her trip to DLR with my godmother in the 60’s. Goofy flirted with my mom. Alice and I talked about cats.
There’s a reason why I’ve been to WDW every year since.
Thank you so much for this comment. I have a similar tale with my mom and I…maybe I should blog about it sometime…from our visit in the 90’s. Disney really is the best place for memories of all kinds, making new ones, forgetting some realities, and enjoying it all.
this is awesome! i can’t wait to go to DL someday. there was a dumbo walk around character? and who were the multicolored cats? they looked like the cat from the sideshow on dumbo’s circus disney channel show, but i don’t think that’s them. thanks for sharing
I believe they were from the Aristocats – they look like the cats from the “Everybody Wants to Be a Cat” part of that movie. 🙂 I could be wrong tho! 😛 Glad you liked the video as much as I did, I love seeing all that old stuff. Can’t wait till I can get to Disneyland either.
I also never went but wish to go and visit their with my family. Thanks for this video. It helped me to know more about Disneyland. And….. Belated Happy Birthday DISNEYLAND!!!
