Disney on Ice holds a special place in my heart, as it was one of the first opportunities to experience something (outside of Disney Parks) that I was ever offered on this blog. Now that we are in our 15th year of Zannaland, I’m thrilled to bring back news of the latest Disney on Ice show appearing in Orlando, along with a discount code for you to use! What’s funny is I recently was at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event (video and podcast recap coming soon!) and in the Disney Broadway section they had costumes from the various Disney shows, including Disney on Ice. It has been a bit since I attended a show, and I was quite impressed by the detail and quality of the costumes. It made me want to see Disney on Ice again. Later that day, I received an email with details about the upcoming shows in Orlando. So it was definitely meant to be! Read on for more details about the latest show: Disney on Ice presents Let’s Dance at the Kia Center in Orlando, from August 30 – September 1, 2024. And keep reading for the discount code so you can get tickets too!

Disney’s Treehouse Villas: Original WDW to Today

For those of you who have been reading Zannaland in one form or another since the beginning (that’s *15* years ago!) you have probably heard me talking or writing about my stays at the Lake Buena Vista Vacation Villas many, many times. If not, you can read about it at that link. I wish I had even more proof of my stays there; rolls and rolls of photos, ephemera, journal entries…it’s a time I would definitely travel back to if I could. That’s probably why I’m so grateful that the Treehouse Villas are still a place anyone can stay on Walt Disney World property. It was always my dream to stay in a Treehouse Villa (I mean, what child of the 80’s wouldn’t want to stay in a treehouse?!) I’m not sure why we never made it there back in the day, I can only imagine perhaps my parents were not as excited about potential mosquitos while staying in a swampy forest? The other (more probable) scenario is that Disney started to build more and more new resorts, and we wanted to try them all, finding new favorites along the way. 41 years after my first-ever stay on WDW property, I finally had this dream come true. (There are fewer and fewer dreams left – Cinderella Castle Dream Suite, I’m looking at you!) Now the Treehouses have gone through a few changes over the years, and I thought before I reviewed my recent visit, I’d take a stroll down one of my favorite streets of all – Memory Lane. Let’s see where those Treehouses came from and how they’ve stuck around after all these years.

Treehouse Villa 1970's

Back in the planning stages of Walt Disney World Resort, after Walt had sadly passed, and the original idea of EPCOT would not come to fruition, some thought there could still be a way for folks to live IN Walt Disney World. They soon realized residents would have to vote on town governance issues, which is a WHOLE other topic. So instead, they decided to build some townhomes and spec houses for corporate sponsorship. Disney aimed to have corporate lease-to-purchase sales of these properties, so companies could have getaway home style resort accommodations for employees. This didn’t work out the way Disney had hoped, so after a few years, Disney opened up reservations to stay at these unique properties. The first were the Vacation Villa townhomes (where I stayed a few times as a child), followed by the Treehouse Villas, built up on stilts to “prevent flooding” as they were essentially nestled in to a swampy wetland area. A golf course had also been built and was followed by the Fairway Villas, little duplex-style homes right on the, well, fairway. Club Lake Villas were the last to be built, aiming at housing conventioneers. The four larger spec homes that had been built but never further developed were the Grand Vista Suites. These were like what we’d now think of a “grand villa” under the Disney Vacation Club lineup, but back then, more like a real 3-bedroom home.

Disney’s Vacation Villas in 1984

Today we’ll just discuss the Treehouse Villas, which were of course the most whimsical of the lineup. Can you imagine Disney building a property today with a spiral staircase in the middle of the living space? Well that’s what the Treehouse Villas originally were. One bedroom on the ground level, with a spiral staircase leading up to the main living room, with two more bedrooms and a full kitchen upstairs. An outdoor deck overlooked the wetlands or the golf course, or the canal (later named the Sassagoula River!). If you’ve ever visited, you’ll see that there are smaller roadways connecting the villas. This is because all of the Lake Buena Vista Villas were intended to be traveled to by golf carts. You could rent one at the main check-in area and park your car there, making the rest of the trip by cart. That’s also how you’d travel to the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village (later Disney Village, later Downtown Disney, later Disney Springs). We did this when we stayed in the 80’s, and I almost drove our rented golf cart into the canal separating the Vacation Villas from the Village. Good times. I was 9, what do you want from me? (I didn’t ACTUALLY go into the canal.) Anyway, now of course there are parking spots, and there were when we stayed at the Vacation Villas too, but we still got a golf cart. It was THE way to travel.

Another of my vivid memories was taking the Disney buses (there were maybe only 4 routes back then?) and looking for the correct flag bus that went to the Villas. Because the Treehouse Villas were the first stop, riding back there in the pitch black at the end of the night was always a treat. I’d look out the huge windows in the front and watch for deer, bunnies hopping across the road, racoons, all sorts of critters. The Treehouse Villas were a magical utopia to me as we’d drive by, day or night. With their floor to ceiling windows and round shape, truly a dream destination. Ok, back to history.

Michael D Eisner

When Michael Eisner took over, a lot of what he had experienced personally in his life became the blueprints for changes he made at the company. And while we all look back on his time fondly (I know I do), some of his decisions didn’t always translate to success for the Company. One of those blueprints was the Disney Institute. It’s funny to me that I (and many of my Disney-obsessed friends and family) take for granted our inherent knowledge or first-hand experience with long past Disney experiences. I mean, they certainly aren’t talking about the Disney Institute’s creation in Traditions, or on the latest vlog. Anyway, the Disney Institute does technically still exist and is now usually a corporate enrichment program for “master class” type of professional development.

When it started, however, anyone could choose to spend a portion or all of their Walt Disney World Vacation learning a new skill under the various topics of: Animation, Culinary, Gardening, The Great Outdoors, Photography, Television, as well as youth programs. In order to make Disney Institute a reality, changes were made to the existing villas and the surrounding buildings. During this time, the Treehouse Villas were turned into residences for the International Program Cast Members. You could still view the villas as you sailed by on a boat going from the Port Orleans Resorts to Downtown Disney.

Disney-Institute-concept-art

When the Disney Institute didn’t take off as planned, it was retooled a few times, finally closing to the public in 2000. At this time, the Vacation Villas and all its other properties had to be destroyed. Well, “had to be” is debatable, but they were. The new resort of Disney’s Saratoga Springs sprung up in its place becoming the seventh Disney Vacation Club property. It would’ve been very easy to raze the Treehouse Villas and add another building or three of DVC villas to the Saratoga Springs land. For whatever reason, Disney chose to actually remodel the Treehouses, make them modern, yet still rustic, and create a few ADA compliant treehouses as well. They remained in their location and became a part of the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa family. And the rest, as they say, is history, well, actually that brings us up to current time. There are lots of sites out there that cover this history more in-depth, this is just my personal memories and knowledge from previous research.

I have attempted to stay at the Disney Treehouse Villas many times over the years, but we are not DVC members, and I’ve never really gotten into attempting to figure out renting points, so when we stay at Disney, it’ll be a cast member or travel agent rate, or sometimes full price. But the Treehouse Villas always remained woefully out of reach at over $1000 a night on an off-peak date. I was finally able to secure a 50% off rate recently, despite being right around the 4th of July. It was the perfect storm of all of the kids (2/3 of whom have real jobs where dates aren’t always the easiest to take off) being available and me being able to work from home meant I could make it work too. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my stories and my excitement and awe walking up to the treehouse. Today I shared a Reel on instagram, and I had so much fun both recording and creating it, it inspired me to get back to writing again as well. So here we all are. I did forget to take any still photos but I guess that just means I have to go back again.

We had a wonderfully relaxing few days there and it was like when we go up to the mountains in a cabin, without the 10 hour drive. The couch was comfy, the views were amazing, and it was so secluded. We felt like we were in Fort Wilderness before they changed Trail’s End (RIP). I also felt like I was 9 again for a bit, and really renewed my passion for the Walt Disney World Resort and what made me fall in love with it to begin with. If you’ve read this whole post, I hope you now know a little more about WDW history and if you’ve been at the Treehouse Villas before, I hope it brought back some wonderful memories for you as well. I’d love to hear them in the comments if so!

June 25 marked 15 years of me writing on this site, zannaland, and though I don’t write as much (or even post as much on instagram thanks to my full time job AND running VeganDisneyFood.com) zannaland is always, always on my mind and something I will probably never give up on because sharing my love for Disney history and how it has affected my life and my family is a passion I just can’t shake. Thank you again for reading, and I promise, more to come.

As a lifelong Broadway musical fan, and a fan of Wicked the musical, I’ve been very excited for all the news surrounding the feature film. This new featurette just released gives us the biggest glimpse so far into the upcoming film, releasing its first part this Thanksgiving. Keep reading to learn more and watch the featurette below!

After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event this holiday season.

Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.

Wicked movie still Elphaba Galinda

The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The film also stars Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible; Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants, Fosse/Verdon) as Boq, an altruistic Munchkin student; Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; and pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.

Here is the latest featurette from the Wicked movie – it looks breathtaking!

The cast of characters includes Pfannee and ShenShen, two conniving compatriots of Glinda played by Emmy nominee Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots); a new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, In the Heights), Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration. Wicked Part Two is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 26, 2025.

Wicked is produced by Marc Platt (La La Land, The Little Mermaid), whose films, television shows and stage productions have earned a combined 46 Oscar® nominations, 58 Emmy nominations and 36 Tony nominations, and by multiple Tony winner David Stone (Kimberly Akimbo, Next to Normal), with whom Platt produced the blockbuster Wicked stage musical. The executive producers are David Nicksay, Stephen Schwartz and Jared LeBoff.

Based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked is adapted for the screen by the stage production’s book writer Winnie Holzman and by legendary Grammy and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The Broadway stage musical is produced by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, the Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.

I feel like most of what I’ve been sharing lately in the Disney movie department has been the “_____ we didn’t know we needed” and it looks like this is definitely going to be the LEGO Star Wars…summer vacation?! movie we didn’t know we needed – and we’ve got the trailer. It’s coming to Disney+ so it’ll be fun and easy to watch no matter what your thoughts are on a limbo contest using Darth Vader’s light saber. It’s also no secret that we are LEGO fans around here.

You may be happy to learn that LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation features an all new song by Weird Al Yankovic, who also appears in LEGO form for the movie.

Here’s that limbo scene I mentioned above. I mean, worth it for Vader’s porg-filled beach hat alone, right?

Looking for a much-needed break from stormtroopers and TIE fighters, Finn arranges a surprise vacation for his friends Rey, Poe, Rose, Chewie, BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO, aboard the ultra-luxurious Galactic Starcruiser, the Halcyon. But Finn’s plan to have one last hurrah together quickly goes awry when he’s separated from the group. REVIEW: Lightyear is the Pixar Story We Didn’t Know We Needed

Lightyear posterOk, so no one really thought we needed a Buzz Lightyear backstory, right? I was of the same mind, and thought this was a very silly attempt at extending the Toy Story franchise beyond its natural life and wasting all of our time. At a recent Lightyear screening, I was proven very wrong. My Lightyear review will not contain major spoilers, but will discuss some on-screen things (which have previously been discussed in the press), so proceed at your own risk if you’d like to be surprised. I will not discuss the major reveal toward the end of the film, so that major spoiler is safe.

Going back to my initial frame of mind when I saw the first real trailer for Lightyear, as an extreme David Bowie fan, I was slightly offended that they used his “Starman“ in the trailer for what I thought was such a pointless film. At the end of the movie (which didn’t use the song at all by the way), I took back my offense. Like many, I assumed this was based on the life of the “real world” person Buzz Lightyear, and had nothing really to do with Toy Story at all. In the first frame, we are told that “…in 1995, a boy named Andy received a toy Buzz Lightyear, based on his favorite movie. This is that movie.” Already, that made more sense to me, and I wish they’d explained that going in, I think it would’ve been more accepted from the start.

The film itself is genuinely entertaining from start to finish. We learn briefly about Space Rangers and what they do. We see Buzz as a devoted ranger, his friend and fellow ranger Hawthorne, and their latest mission. Something goes wrong, and the entire team is stranded on a planet, which Buzz feels is his fault. He works to get them off the planet and test out the hyper speed crystal fusion fuel they need to get back home. The only problem with all of his attempted and failed tests, is that Buzz is gone for minutes, while years and years pass by on the planet he’s returning to.

Buzz Lighyear and Sox
© 2021 Disney/Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

To help him with his guilt over stranding people on this alien planet, Hawthorne gives Buzz a “personal companion robot” named Sox. He is a robotic cat, who truly steals the show and gives it its heart. Even when things seem serious or dire, Sox can find a way to help and inject humor with his “loading” noises of just “meowmeowmeowmeow” or “beepboopbeepboop.” It really helps keep the movie firmly in the kids zone and something that Andy would’ve appreciated as a kid, I think. (Although I’m pretty disappointed we didn’t get Sox toys back in 1995 when Toy Story came out.) Sox is the friend and co-pilot we all need.

Lightyear review
Lightyear review
Lightyear review

Again, I won’t give anything more in this Lightyear review than what I’ve said above away, but suffice it to say, Buzz learns some valuable lessons about friendship, accepting help, and what life is all about. I will also note that there is a lesbian couple in the film, garnering its being banned in Saudi Arabia. The storyline is very subtly displayed, and portrayed as just “normal” which of course, is how it should be. I like to think about 1995 Andy watching this movie and thinking nothing of it as well, just a couple, no other adjectives needed. I wish Pixar had been so bold back in 1995, and I wish the world would’ve been as accepting as most of it is today. Strides are finally being made however, and acceptance and inclusion is becoming the norm.

Lightyear review

So while of course we didn’t need another Toy Story movie, I think we did need the lessons Lightyear doles out and I will happily add this to one of my favorite Pixar tales. And tails. I’m totally getting a plush Sox just as soon as I finish posting this Lightyear review. (Here are two options below!)

Sox the Cat on Shop Disney
Sox the Cat on ShopDisney

Lightyear opens in theaters on June 17. I highly recommend heading out to see it, if only for the Sox moments. Until then, you can also enjoy some backstory as Disney+ invites fans to explore the history of Buzz Lightyear and get a sneak peek at the making of the all-new film.

Pixar Animation Studios’ “Beyond Infinity: Buzz and the Journey to Lightyear” explores the evolution of an icon, tracing Buzz Lightyear’s route from toy to the hero featured in the new film. Check out the trailer celebrating the launch of the documentary on Disney+.

Featuring filmmakers, storytellers, artists and members of the “Lightyear” voice cast, “Beyond Infinity: Buzz and the Journey to Lightyear” details how Buzz’s original action-figure design was realized, and how that look was translated years later into a human hero. Delving into the cultural impact of the galaxy’s most famous Space Ranger and his significance to Pixar filmmakers, this doc grapples with what actually is beyond infinity. It is directed by Tony Kaplan and produced by Sureena Mann.

Opening in theaters June 17, “Lightyear”—the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voice of Chris Evans), the hero who inspired the toy—follows the legendary Space Ranger on an intergalactic adventure. The film is directed by Angus MacLane (co-director “Finding Dory”) and produced by Galyn Susman (“Toy Story That Time Forgot”).

I hope you enjoyed this Lightyear review and it wasn’t too spoilery, I couldn’t not talk about how wonderful Sox the robot cat is. Let me know in the comments below if you see Lightyear and what you think!

Thanks to Disney D23 for the screening of Lightyear, as always, my opinions and thoughts are my own.

My runDisney Race Weekend Sponsored by Enterprise

Princess 5K 2011
My original runDisney race – Still running with my phone in hand!

I registered for my first runDisney race back in 2010. It was the Mickey’s Halloween 5K, part of the first-ever Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend that year. It was a different time and I made so many new friends and connections through Twitter. We were all calling it #EpicOctober and meeting up at various times. I was also meeting up with my fellow Walt Disney World Moms Panel (now planDisney) panelists, as it was my first year on the panel. I had never run anything in my life and was very, very worried I would not be able to complete the 5K. So, I didn’t go. I was ashamed, embarrassed and vowed that I would do a runDisney 5K someday, especially after meeting up with all my friends who did it and listening to all the fun they had on the course. So, I registered for the 5K during the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. And this time, I actually did it!

Fast forward many years, and many, many runDisney races have taken place. Over that time, I did a handful of 5K’s and one 10K back in 2016. I then took 7 years off. A lot happened in my life between then and now, and I began to focus more on my health and fitness. I lost 75lbs over the past 2 years, and though I’ve been vegetarian since 2012, I went vegan in 2018, and have been ever since. After these changes, I decided to get back into runDisney races, and vowed that 2022 would be my “Year of runDisney” and I would do all the races I could this year. I bounced back with the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend races in January of 2022, where I did the 5K and 10K again. I had caught the runDisney bug and decided to challenge myself and register for the Disney Fairytale Challenge as part of the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend – this was doing the 10K and Half Marathon (plus I did the 5K too). Me? Do a half marathon?? I spent the next months being anxious and worried, while still knowing I had it in me to complete it. And I did.

I was not fast, I cried about 5 times (happy cries), but I did it. I am now a half marathoner! The next set of races were the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend – celebrating races from runDisney past, including the fan favorite Expedition Everest 5K and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10 Miler.

I wanted to register for the Challenge and do all of the races, but in trying to get both my husband and I registered, I was shut out of the Challenge and the 5K. I was able to register both of us for the Race for the Taste 10K and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10 Miler. Closer to the races, I received an email from Enterprise, the official rental car of Walt Disney World, about partnering with them to cover the races and share my experiences on social media. Of course, it was an immediate YES from me, and what follows is my sponsored account of the runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend Celebrates Yestermorrow.

Enterprise Rental Car

As part of our partnership, Enterprise provided a rental car for me as well as a stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. I was very excited for both of these experiences. We started out by heading to the Car Care Center right near Magic Kingdom Park to pick up the Enterprise rental car. It was a seamless process, and it wasn’t just for me, the others getting their cars or dropping them back off were helped quickly and with minimal effort on the guests part. I picked up my super cool Dodge Challenger in bright orange and knew this was going to be a fun weekend.

Enterprise Rental Car

We then headed over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. It was again so easy to check-in, I just did it on the ‘My Disney Experience’ application on my phone and didn’t even need to stop at the front desk. We could head straight to the room and unlock our door with the app or a MagicBand. We were given a standard view room, but really lucked out as our view was of the area where some of the animals come at the end of the night, so we really saw so many animals right from our balcony! There were 6 giraffes we could see often, three or four zebras (including a cute younger one), some Ankole cattle, waterbuck, impala, crowned cranes, and more (including bunnies and squirrels which are just as exciting to me). It was so cool to wake up and see giraffes right outside.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my favorite resorts in all of Walt Disney World Resort anyway, so I was so grateful and excited to get to spend 5 nights there. There are so many options for dining. The pool area is wonderful, and the rooms themselves were so peaceful and comfortable. When I first checked in, I had the balcony door open and was texting my friends that all I could hear was the gentle clicking of the bamboo trees in the distance. I was in heaven.

The next day, after breakfast at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, we set out to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo. This is where you pick up all your bibs for the races, your race shirts, and you can also shop for fun merchandise from runDisney partners and official runDisney race weekend merchandise too. It was super easy to pop over in our Enterprise rental car and just park and head in. It’s a really fun way to start off every race weekend, because you are immediately surrounded by others who are doing the same thing you are, having fun, getting excited for the upcoming races, and of course taking photos at the many photo ops all around ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. We got our bibs and found out we were in Starting Group 2 for the 5K and the 10 Miler, but Starting Group 1 for the 10K. What luck! I’ve said before I’m not fast, so getting any extra time from being in a closer starting group is always a bonus that I appreciate greatly!

runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend 2022

After getting all of our race info and bibs, we headed back to the resort to just chill before the first race – a night race! The Expedition Everest 5K always took place at night in prior years, so they kept with that tradition, and it didn’t start until 10pm. This was my first ever night race, though many of my friends had done either this race or the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend races that took place at night previously. It was kind of strange being up so late and just waiting for the race to start. I’m still not sure if I prefer that to the early morning 2:30am wake-up calls of the other races I’ve done.

Expedition Everest 5K 2022

runDisney Springtime Surprise Race Recap:

Mother Nature had some other ideas about our nighttime race, and there was worry about rain and lightning. So, in an abundance of caution not only for the racers, but also the amazing volunteers working the course, the course was shortened for the 5K. The scavenger hunt, which was all digital on an app this year, was also postponed getting everyone to finish the race as soon as possible and reduce the risk of weather affecting things. The course had the last half a mile taken off, but by the time we walked to and from the start and finish line, we had all definitely done a 5K that night. Luckily, the rain held off and we didn’t get drenched, so that was a very good thing. It was so fun running through Pandora: World of Avatar at night, with the bioluminescence and all the background sounds of creatures of Pandora in the distance. I loved it.
Expedition Everest 5K 2022

The medal for the Expedition Everest 5K has always been a compass, so I was very excited to finally get one myself. It was truly one of the most fun 5K’s and unique ones as well. I would sign up again in a heartbeat!

The next day, we had a day of rest before the early morning race times began on Saturday. We hung around the hotel, had some pool time, and our family visited so we could all have dinner together from Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village, before we had to head to an early bedtime.

Saturday morning, we were up bright and early (well, not so bright, it was still very dark out at 2:30am). Having the Enterprise rental car meant we had a little more time to head over to EPCOT and park for the Race for the Taste 10K. My husband Scott and I headed into our starting group 1 and did some stretching before the race began. The runDisney crew always does an amazing job of hyping up the crowd at such an early hour, in rain or shine, cold or heat. This day, the humidity was at about 99% and it was like running through soup, but that didn’t stop the fun.

runDisney Race for the Taste 10K 2022

We saw so many fun characters along the course and seeing our friends racing along with us made it even more special. Having the runDisney PhotoPass photographers along the course ensures you’ll have some great memories of the race day and seeing the photos pop in on your app after the race is always a highlight.

runDisney Race for the Taste 10K 2022
runDisney Race for the Taste 10K 2022
Being locals, we aren’t the type to pack in non-stop theme park action during the race weekends. We can go to the parks most of the time, so we like to take the time to relax at our hotel and unwind between races during the runDisney weekends. Saturday night we took advantage of the delicious dining options at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and had some dinner to go from Victoria Falls Lounge and the Mara. It was an early night again as we waited for the 2:30 alarm to go off Sunday morning!
runDisney Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2022

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ 10 Miler was the last race of the weekend, and all of my friends were in the same starting group as Scott and I, so it was a very fun morning as we laughed and got ready to race. Two of our friends ran the whole race, while my other one (Amanda, who got me into runDisney races to begin with) run/walked with us the whole way. The humidity was less savage this day, so it was a great race day.

runDisney Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2022

runDisney Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2022
The runDisney character stops and entertainment along the course was all themed to the Tower of Terror and 1939 (the year the elevator first dropped into the Twilight Zone). It was great fun. I had already done 13.1 miles in February, so I knew I could complete this 10-miler, and each race I ran a little more and walked a little less, so it was all a great feeling of accomplishment too. Unlike the other two races, we finished this one after sunrise, so we got to see the sun rise over EPCOT, after running through Disney’s Hollywood Studios and for the first time ever – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! I will never forget those moments.
runDisney Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2022

Finishing the final race with my husband and my friends was such a wonderful experience. The runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend Celebrates Yestermorrow was a success all around! We finished up our morning with a family breakfast at Boma in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge which has so many wonderful options for everyone to enjoy. After all the racing, we took a much-needed nap. Despite my lack of any real training, I was feeling great and ready to head over to a park and enjoy our last full day of this race weekend.

runDisney race medals 2022

We popped over to EPCOT in our Enterprise rental car and enjoyed some of the delicious bites from the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, going on now through July 4. We ended our night watching Harmonious and wandering through Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts to check out the Easter egg displays before heading home for a good night’s sleep.

EPCOT Harmonious

The next day, reality crept back in as we checked out, returned our rental car (super easy, we didn’t even have to go inside, we just handed them the keys and they said we were all set!) ,and headed home and back to work. I can’t thank Enterprise enough for really making this runDisney weekend an epic one with so many fun moments along the way, I’ll remember it for a very long time. I can’t wait for the next set of runDisney races – see you in November!

Disney just released the first teaser trailer for their live-action update of Pinocchio which is coming to Disney+ on September 8. You can watch the trailer below. I’d love to know your thoughts too! When it started, I thought ‘wow this looks just like the ride in Disneyland!’ but then the cgi characters appeared and the similarities ended there. I’m sure I’ll watch it, but not sure it’ll become one of my favorites. Here’s the official announcement below from Disney, who will be celebrating Disney+ Day on September 8th, right before the D23 Expo!
