Magic Kingdom 24 hour dayFor the third year in a row, Disney Parks in the US are doing a 24-hour Disney day. Starting with Leap Day back in 2012, we all enjoyed “One More Disney Day” followed in 2013 by the Monstrous Summer Memorial Day 24 Hour Party. This year, we will all Rock Your Disney Side with the Heroes and Villains 24 Hour Party. Guests are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Disney hero or villain and enjoy 24 continuous hours in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom or the Disneyland Resort parks. The party will feature lots of Hero and Villain photo ops, entertainment and specialty food items as the parks stay open from 6am May 23 – 6am May24. Here’s a rundown of what to see, where to eat and what to do at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom:

Let’s start with the food! There are quite a few must-try options available only for the event, hopefully there are no cupcake overdoses! (All food photos ©Disney)

  • Rock Your Disney Side Cupcake – at the Main Street Confectionery, Big Top Souvenirs, or Prairie Outpost & Supply
  • Maleficent Cupcake, Frozen-themed Cupcake, & Olaf Carrot Cupcake – at the Main Street Bakery
Maleficent Cupcake Frozen Cupcake Olaf Cupcake
  • Princess-themed Cupcakes – will be found at Gaston’s Tavern
  • Poisoned Apple Waffle Sundae – Sleepy Hollow

Poison Apple Waffle Sundae

  • Poisoned Apple Shortcake Sundae – Storybook Treats

Poison Apple Shortcake Sundae

  • Olaf Sipper Cup with Specialty Beverage – found at Friar’s Nook and The Lunching Pad
  • Heroes and Villains-themed Cotton Candy – various locations at Outdoor Food carts

Heroes & Villains Cotton Candy

  • Mickey’s Kitchen Sink Sundae – at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor (but I believe this is available normally now)

Disney Parks 24 Hours

If 6am is too early to Rock Your Sweet Tooth, many dining locations will be offering a breakfast option on the morning of the 23rd or 24th depending on location. One of my favorite moments of last year’s event was having beignets at 5am in front of Cinderella Castle. Hoping for something to top that this year! For organization purposes, I put together a handy dandy table of what’s available:

Location Name: Friday 5/23 Saturday 5/24 Hot Breakfast Served:
Main Street Bakery  yes  yes breakfast sandwiches
Plaza Ice Cream Parlor  no  yes
Casey’s Corner  yes yes breakfast sandwich
Auntie Gravity’s  yes  no
The Lunching Pad yes yes breakfast hot dog
Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe  no yes breakfast sandwich
Cheshire Cafe  yes no
Storybook Treats no yes
Friar’s Nook  no  yes
Pinocchio Village Haus no yes breakfast flatbread pizza
Gaston’s Tavern yes yes
Liberty Square Market yes no
Sleepy Hollow yes yes breakfast waffle sandwich
Columbia Harbor House yes yes French toast sticks & bacon
Westward Ho yes yes
Pecos Bill’s no yes breakfast sandwich
Sunshine Tree Terrace yes no
Aloha Isle no yes

As more information becomes available on other dining locations or times, I’ll of course update this post.

Rock Your Disney Heroes and Villains t-shirtEntertainment options will offer a little something for everyone to enjoy:

  • Special Character Greetings will take place both Friday and Saturday – Disney heroes and villains will be making appearances around the park, check the Times Guide for more information.
  • Special Photo Opportunities both Friday and Saturday will be held at the Rose Garden and Rocket Tower Plaza.
  • Disney’s Up All Night Dance Party and Frontierland Dance Party will rock the night away starting at 2am and ending at 5:15am in Frontierland and 5:45am by Cinderella Castle.
  • Incredibles Super Movie Night will take place after the #IncrediblesSuperDanceParty! and show a screening of The Incredibles from 11pm – 5am.
  • It’s Good to Be Bad Villainous Celebration is a special night time parade with Disney villains taking place before the Main Street Electrical Parade at 10:45pm on Friday and 12:45am Saturday, along the usual parade route.
  • Kiss Goodnight – to culminate the 24 hour party, this farewell will happen at 5:50am Saturday morning at the Town Square Train Station.

Merchandise – in addition to all the food items above, a special Rock Your Disney Heroes and Villains Glow in the Dark T-Shirt and other Rock Your Disney Side items will be available at the Emporium.

Transportation to the parks from Disney resorts will begin 45 minutes prior to park opening and the monorail will end operations between the TTC and Epcot at 11pm.

Will you be rocking your Disney Side for 24 full hours? I know many think we must be crazy to stay in a park for that long, but the reason I love it is because it is the perfect way to experience the park as I want to; enjoying the scenery, landscaping and gardens, the quiet little nooks where you can just people watch and relax. I’d be happy not going on a single attraction, although I must admit, riding the Peoplemover in the wee hours of the morning is a must do. Hopefully we can get some rides in on the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train too if there are soft openings happening. The fact that Starbucks is there now is perfect too. If you do go, take some time to enjoy the aspects of the park that you would never normally see – sunrise over the Castle is a must.  What are you most looking forward to experiencing? Let me know in the comments below!

Disney24Goooood Morning Walt DisneyWorld!

Today Disney Parks are embarking on their second ever 24-hour park day for Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World
and Disneyland AND California Adventure in California. I’ll be attending all 24(+) hours here at the Magic Kingdom, and bringing you fun photos and info along the way. I thought I’d post some helpful links here if you’d like to follow along:

Follow my photo adventures on Instagram – @zannaland ( instagram.com/zannaland if you don’t use the app)

I post all my Instagram photos to twitter – @zannaland and facebook – facebook.com/zannaland as well.

Since I’ll be here all day and allll night (that’s 5am – 6am for those playing at home), I may pop onto Ustream to broadcast a parade, some characters, a ride or two, or Wishes as well. Word on the street is there will be some special visits by Mike and Sully from Monsters University so I’ll see what (or who) I can find.

You can find me on Ustream at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/zanna-cam
If you have any requests for photo challenges, rides to go on, snacks to try, drop me a line on and of the above places and I’ll do my best to oblige! And if you are in the parks yourself, be sure to say hi if you spot me (and if I’m passed out asleep, wake me
up!).

Happy Disney24!

Here are some photos and updates from throughout the day:

Disney24
We were the last guests in Be Our Guest for lunch that day…or so we thought, they ended up letting more people in after us haha)
Disney24
Yummy, as always, Be Our Guest is such a wonderful respite from the heat and crowds of the park!

Next, we took a trip to Frontierland – Sail down the Rivers of America on the Liberty Belle! (Vine video)

The WDW Railroad from the Rivers of America (Vine video)

Disney24
We decided to hang out on Tom Sawyer Island for a bit, and caught the sun setting behind Big Thunder Mountain.
Disney24
There was a tiny shower of rain while we were leaving Tom Sawyer Island, and this beautiful rainbow was the result. I was so happy to capture it behind the Castle!
Disney24
Here are some of the yummy snacks you could get for the Monstrous Summer all-nighter. I’m assuming many of them will be available all summer long.
Disney24
The moon was alllllmost full last night, and cast a beautiful light all over the Magic Kingdom. Here is a shot of it in front of Pirates of the Caribbean.
Disney24
I had never noticed this lantern with the red glass in it, which made a beautiful red shadow on the wall behind it. This is right behind the Tangled area, on the Peter Pan building. (And that’s the moon again too!)
Disney24
The Tangled area is always so beautiful. It was a popular spot with all the charging stations too!
Disney24
This was the dance party happening in front of the Castle.
Disney24
But, I’m more into the classics, so we checked out the Carousel of Progress, which has recently been spruced up a bit and has some great lighting now.
Disney24
After falling asleep in Carousel of Progress, we decided to ride the Peoplemover about 6 times, maybe more, I lost count because…I was falling asleep on there too! Anyway, most of the rides through, Space Mountain was down and the lights were on inside, always fun (and a bit scary!) to see.
Disney24
After realizing the Peoplemover was not going to wake me up, I needed a sugar fix and found some fresh made beignets over at the Tomorrowland Terrace. Perfection! Only about 30 minutes to go!
Disney24
Made it to “midnight” which was 6am in this case! 24 hours in the Magic Kingdom!
Disney24
This was a popular photo op on the way out, so as you can see, it took a few minutes for me to snag a selfie with no one behind me. I made it!
Disney24
The sun was rising once again as I walked to my car, and I caught this beautiful sunrise over Bay Lake Tower, with a monorail rounding the bend. Perfect ending!

All in all, it was another wonderful 24 hour experience at the Magic Kingdom. I know it may seem a little silly to be falling asleep on rides, but just being in the park itself is always fun to me, and the sense of community and camaraderie was out in force last night. The crowds were definitely much much greater this time than in the Leap Year all-nighter in 2011, and I know there were some unhappy guests trying to get up and down and in and out of Main Street. Hopefully Disney can beef up its crowd control a bit to have a better plan for another event like this. It always pains me to see unhappy guests. That was just one tiny portion of the overall successful experience and did not put a damper on my enjoyment at all.

Having the Disney Parks Blog meet-up at the start of the day was a wonderful plus, the donuts were great, seeing old and new friends was great, and seeing Monsters University early was wonderful! Major thanks to the Disney Parks Blog for putting events like that on and adding so many fun surprises and souvenirs to the experience. They certainly don’t have to give back as much as they do, but they seem to always be trying to do more and do better for their readers, fans and park-goers. As a local blogger who is a fan first, it’s an honor and a privilege to be able to be a part of the community like that.

All throughout the day, I wanted to post photos of just some of what Disney means to me, amazing scenery, landscapes and breathtaking architecture that tells a story and creates magic and memories at every turn. I certainly didn’t chronicle my whole day, nor did I make it a mission to ride every ride or experience every show. I did, however, spend some relaxing time experiencing some of the classics that really say Walt Disney World to me. Riding down the Rivers of America on the Liberty Belle was so peaceful and just transported me to another time in history. The animatronics and effects on the river banks have really been tended to lately and it looks great, really making the experience worthwhile. Then over on Tom Sawyer Island, I love to see kids and families (and me!) making their own fun; exploring, running, climbing, laughing and creating their own “interactive experience”.

Being in the park for over 24 hours really lets you focus on the aspects that made you fall in love with Disney to begin with. I am grateful to Disney for letting that happen, and to my friends and all of the Disney community that I shared that with last night. Thanks for following along!

Things To Do With 24 Hours At Disney-One More Disney Day!

One More Disney DayTomorrow is the day we’ve all been waiting for – One More Disney Day, where both the Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World and Disneyland will be open from 6am Wednesday, February 29 through 6am Thursday, March 1. It sounds like a dream come true, doesn’t it? But then you may stop and think, well, what am I going to DO for 24 hours? I thought I’d put together some ideas to ensure the day, and night, and day again, is a memorable!

…

Find 24 Hidden Mickeys – look around, they’re everywhere!

Ride an attraction 24 times – not all attractions will be open for the full 24 hours so check before you head over.

Play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom – you know I will be!!

Create your own scavenger hunt – look for certain items (a crown, a star, a squirrel!), see who can find the most yellow things – the sky’s the limit!

Count the ghosts on Haunted Mansion – play in the queue!

Have 24 different snacks – popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, egg rolls, you can come up with 24, right?

For the hardcore snacker – have 24 Dole Whips! (or Mickey Bars, or snack treat of choice!)

Dole Whip
A recent Dole Whip photo I took, love the colors here

Check out the cool One More Disney Day merchandise commemorating the momentous day.

Buy 24 Disney Dooney & Bourke purses? (Just seeing if you were paying attention – but if you have the means, be my guest – and let me know, I’ll post about you!)

Take 24 Disney Photos! Friends and followers of mine on twitter know of my addiction to Instagram. There have been several photo challenges on there, just for fun, with prompts of things to capture and post. Now friend and fellow blogger ThemeParkMom has come up with a #Disney24 photo challenge for those of us spending the next 24 hours surrounded by endless photo opportunities. Check it out and post your photos to instagram, twitter, with the hashtag #24DisneyPhotos, or publicly on facebook. ThemeParkMom will be sharing her favorites on her blog, so check back there.

In addition to these fun ideas, here is the official entertainment line-up for tomorrow, from the Disney Parks Blog:

  • Two performances of the Main Street Electrical Parade, at 10 p.m. and midnight
  • Four showings of “The Magic, The Memories and You!” at 7:45 p.m., 9 p.m., 11 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. (March 1)
  • The Frontierland Hoedown near Country Bear Jamboree, at 2:45 a.m., 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.
  • Disney’s Dance the Night Away Party at Cinderella Castle, from 1 a.m. – 5:30 a.m.
  • Character greetings throughout the night, including:
    • Phineas and Ferb in Tomorrowland
    • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in Fantasyland
    • Mickey and Minnie Mouse in Town Square, wearing their pajamas for the party in Florida before heading out west to visit guests at Disneyland park

Finally – have fun! If you are in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World – look me up on twitter @zannaland. I’ll be there off and on throughout the day and I’d love to meet up!
