When I saw this new line of Her Universe designs my mouth dropped and I wished I was 20 again. I may have to throw my pre-conceived fashion notions out the window for a few of these new items. They are that adorable. The Loki dress is to die for, and the Tony Stark jacket is fabulous. I love them all though! Here is the official release from Her Universe below and info on the pre-sale going on at Hot Topic now before the mid-May release of this new Marvel line. Which one is your favorite??

Fangirls assemble! In celebration of the release of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Her Universe – the trendsetting geek girl apparel company, and Disney Consumer Products have announced a new fashion line inspired by fan-favorite Super Heroes from the Avengers films. The Marvel by Her Universe collection will be available mid-May exclusively at select Hot Topic stores and hottopic.com, with an online pre-sale starting April 21st on hottopic.com.

The Avengers-inspired line features designs by winners from the first-ever Her Universe “Geek Couture” Fashion Show held at last year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego where attendees Amy Beth Christenson and Andrew MacLaine wowed the audience with their original, handmade creations on the runway and took top honors at the event. As part of the grand prize, Christenson and MacLaine were rewarded the exciting professional opportunity to design an exclusive fashion collection with Her Universe founder, Ashley Eckstein, for pop-culture and licensed apparel destination Hot Topic. To see the making of the collection, from inspiration to sketches to fittings to ready-to-wear, visit hottopic.com/marvelbyheruniverse.

“It’s been such a pleasure to work with Amy and Andrew to create this line from their initial sketches to the final product sold in Hot Topic stores,” said Her Universe Founder Ashley Eckstein. “Geek fashion is a trend that’s here to stay. Fangirls are making a statement in the fashion community and this new Avengers collection is addressing their demand for more fashion-forward designs.”

“It’s exciting to see Marvel’s female fan base grow with the second installation of our collaboration with Her Universe, inspired by one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2015,Avengers: Age of Ultron,” said Paul Gitter, Senior Vice President, Licensing, Marvel at Disney Consumer Products. “This collection brings awareness of the emerging fangirl trend into mainstream fashion by uniting stylish designs with iconic characters to create a strong statement at retail.”

The action-packed Marvel by Her Universe collection consists of stylish dresses and jackets inspired by popular Avengers characters, available in straight and extended sizes. The six piece fashion collection for Hot Topic includes:

– Captain America Halter Dress, $59.50
– Thor Sailor Dress, $59.50

Alfred Angelo Disney Fairy Tale Weddings – Dresses for Real Women Real Brides

The Alfred Angelo Real Women Brides Bloggers and our amazing consultant, Jocelynn
The Alfred Angelo Real Women Brides Bloggers and our amazing consultant, Jocelynn

While I have been keeping up on my goings-on and various travels, events, and experiences in Zannaland on Instagram as well as facebook and twitter, I took a little blogging break while trying to re-tool my site after a series of fun hacker incidents last year. {They weren’t actually fun at all}

As an update for those who may not follow along in those other places, I got engaged back in September, and October. It’s kind of a long story, which I’m sure I’ll share soon, but basically I think my fiance may have been going for some sort of record for the number of times he could propose. Knowing my friend and fellow blogger Lee Allport was renewing her vows and had a wonderful partnership with Alfred Angelo to showcase their gorgeous dresses as well as their “Real Women Real Brides” program…when she asked if I wanted to join some fellow bloggers at a special event to try on dresses and share our thoughts on our blogs, well of course I said, “yes!” {I’m getting kind of good at that now.}

Let me preface this account of the event by saying, generally speaking, I’m quite shy, and don’t yearn for the spotlight. Sure, I take selfies like it’s my job some days, but that’s on my terms. Trying on dresses designed to make all eyes turn to you, and thinking about the fact that I am actually going to be getting a dress for real and walking down the aisle again soon, was a little overwhelming to me. I may have had a tiny internal panic attack when I arrived at the Alfred Angelo salon in Altamonte Springs, FL. However, Jocelynn soon put me at ease and did not treat me like the ancient, wrinkly 3000 pound hag that I may have felt like on the inside {yes, I have self-esteem issues, I know.} So let’s see what happened next, shall we?

Photo Jan 11, 6 33 25 PM
Eep. {Please excuse my blotchy neck…happens when I get nervous!}

Well, first, Lee spoke for a few about how different Alfred Angelo was, and how they suggest dresses to try on based on the personality of the bride that shines through when first meeting her. With sizes up to 26, they really are for “Real Women,” making sure everyone looks and feels beautiful on her wedding day. I was feeling more at ease already. But…I still just let other bloggers go first and try some dresses on. It was fun to see so many different styles and designs. And interesting to see things that I may not ever have considered for myself, look perfect on another person there. It’s funny how one dress can say so much about you and let you shine through on a day you’ll remember forever. Then, it was my turn.

The first dress I tried on was one of the Alfred Angelo Disney Fairy Tale Weddings dresses – a Snow White. I had looked at all of the Disney dresses, and while I love princess ball gown style dresses, I knew that this time around (second wedding, 41 years-old), I wasn’t going to go that route. So the Snow White dress stood out to me as simple, yet different.

I have recently lost close to 50lbs, and I’m still losing, but I’m still not super comfortable with how I look in a dress. And obviously my top is not shrinking very much, so I have that to consider when choosing a dress too. I did really like the lace on the Snow White dress, and the little cap sleeve detail. I don’t think it would be THE dress though. But I may think something else entirely after I’ve lost more weight and things fit differently.

The Alfred Angelo Snow White dress - style 239

Next up, I happened to mention that I wondered what a mermaid style dress would look like on me, so Jocelynn brought one out for me to try. I really had never, ever considered wearing a mermaid dress, as I just didn’t think it would look flattering on me at all. In addition, I wanted to avoid a strapless dress because of that top heavy thing I mentioned above. So I was pretty shocked when I tried on style 2520 {I think it’s actually not this style but very close to it} and I actually liked it. Actually, I wasn’t sure I liked it, until I saw photos after the fact. Then I thought, “wow, that actually looks kind of good” which is not something that usually crosses my brain. {Click to enlarge all photos}

Am I a mermaid?
Maybe?

I tried on a few other dresses after this, but didn’t like any of them enough to take photos of. Finally, I tried on a dress that had become my favorite online, and I was kind of holding out hope to be the ONE. It was unique, had a bit of color and a sash that made it stand out. Alfred Angelo style 2251 was up next.

Close-up of the sash detail
Style 2250

I wasn’t sure what I thought of this either. I love the dress, but I wasn’t sure if it looked right on me. So many dresses, it’s so hard! But what I did know was that I wanted to come back to Alfred Angelo and try on even MORE dresses. I now had the bug to try dresses on, and I know the right one is out there for me. I love that Alfred Angelo has such personal service and really does work with you and let you know what will look best on you. I’m excited for some one-on-one time and looking forward to finding the dress that just speaks to me.

One of the main reasons Alfred Angelo is so well-respected is both their long history making happy brides happier, and their partnership with Disney Fairy Tale Weddings. The Disney Princess dresses are unbelievably unique and with more designs each season, there is so much to choose from. I love that they come in colors representing the princess too. Two of my favorites from our blogger night were the Ariel dress and the Belle dress, seen below by fellow bloggers, as well as the Elsa dress and a different Ariel dress:

The Belle dress – style 206 – the little sleeves come off!

So as you can see, there really is a style and a dress for every woman. Head to Alfred Angelo to see what dress you can’t wait to try on, then make an appointment and let the fun begin! For more Real Women and Real Brides, follow along with Lee as she showcases them on her site, MySentimentExactLee, as well as the Alfred Angelo site! It’s so great to see dresses on real women with real bodies. It makes the whole thought of finding the perfect dress less daunting and something even this second-time bride is looking forward to.

Which dress that I tried on is your favorite? Or which one do you think I should try on when I go back? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Disclaimer: For attending this blogger event, we were given a gift certificate for $200 toward any bridesmaid’s dress. My opinions and my experiences are all my own – this was actually a very cathartic experience, so big thanks to Lee, Jocelynn, and Alfred Angelo bridal salon for the wonderful event! Thanks too, to all my fellow bloggers for a fun night and letting me share your beautiful photos here.

There are so many movie/pop culture-make-up crossovers lately, it may be hard to keep up, but one I was instantly enamored with was Urban Decay’s The Glinda Palette and Urban Decay’s The Theodora Palette. UD is my favorite brand of eye shadows (so many sparkles!) and I tend to get a little obsessed with their new releases. This is no exception. The two sets are just gorgeous and seem to have a color for any occasion, eye color, or style. See the hues below:

Urban Decay Oz Palette

Urban Decay Glinda Palette

From UD’s description: Inspired by the Disney film’s theme of good witch vs. bad witch (and the good witch/bad witch dichotomy in all of us), Urban Decay created two collectible palettes loaded with beautiful, never-before-seen shades. Recreate Glinda’s ethereal, spellbinding look with eight all new and exclusive eye shadows in six pans (this set includes two duo-shades that are split in half, with a different color on each side of the pan).

Fellow blogger Estelle from ThisHappyPlaceBlog.com picked up the Glinda palette and had these photos to share:

Disneyland Explorer iPad App – Magical Fun for All Ages

3 February 2012 by Suzannah Otis 2 Comments

Disneyland Explorer iPad AppThe past week has been a whirlwind of activity around the zannaland headquarters (aka my house) so I haven’t been keeping up with all the latest tweets and blog posts and news…However, I happened to see one of my favorite Disney cast members re-tweeting something about a new Disneyland Explorer iPad app. Hey, I thought, I’ve been to Disneyland! And I have an iPad! I’d like to explore Disneyland ON my iPad! So I downloaded it. I instantly fell in love, and wanted to share my thoughts here with you all.

When I heard the title, “Disneyland Explorer” I figured it would be more of a “fun” app vs. planning or facts etc. And this is true. This is exactly how I like my Disney information and entertainment. This may shock some, but I’m actually not a planner when it comes to Disney Parks. Maybe I take visiting Walt Disney World so often for granted, but even on my first visit to Disneyland last summer, I didn’t read one guide book or really do anything before I arrived. I just walked in and explored. That being said, I do want to put that little disclaimer in that for anyone looking for solid planning information, this is not the app for that. This is more like a way to be in Disneyland Resort virtually, with some extras thrown in too.

As you would expect from an official Disney app – it is breathtakingly beautiful. As you press the screen to enter the app, you are instantly transported to Sleeping Beauty Castle, with Walt standing in front. An image that makes any Disney fan just sigh with contentment. From there you can just start touching various park icons to discover how you can explore. Some attractions will feature a photo, others a short video of the ride in action, and still others will offer an interactive game or activity.

Disneyland Explorer iPad App
Pirates of the Caribbean game

As you scroll through the different lands, the music blends seamlessly from one area to the next and each new land offers lush backgrounds and foregrounds with all your familiar favorite scenes. It’s just wonderful. Once you explore all of Disneyland, the landscape continues to the Disneyland Resort hotels, Downtown Disney District and then on to California Adventure. There’s even a section for Cars Land, opening soon – so I’m sure the app will be updated in the future with more interactive elements. [edit: just heard from one of the developers that they are working on this update and the Buena Vista Street area as we speak!] You then end up back on Main Street, U.S.A. and back down to the Castle to explore all over again. (I won’t give away all the surprises, but there are a lot of them!)

Quite a few of the interactive games are perfect for little ones and rated my 3 year-old’s seal of approval. Now I know I can keep him entertained with Ariel’s undersea friends, any time of the day. I think my favorite games were trying to capture a photo of the Yeti from Matterhorn (I wish it saved these to my photos on my iPad!) and the epic pirate battle within Pirates of the Caribbean. You can even enter the Animation Academy and learn how to draw one of the Fab 4 characters. There’s also a menu button to press and see all of the location choices in list form, in case you want to look for a particular attraction or dining location.

Disneyland Explorer iPad App
Ariel's Undersea Adventure offers fun for the littlest fans

I know I will spend hours just relaxing and enjoying the magic of this little app – free from the AppStore. It is the perfect pick-me-up in between Disneyland visits. I can imagine something like this for the Walt Disney World Resort would require many more months of creation time, but I have hope they’ll be releasing one for the Florida parks and even better – the international parks. I may never let my iPad leave my side if that were to happen. If you need even more convincing, enjoy the Disneyland Explorer preview video below —

Here is the official press release for the app:

The magical sights and sounds of Disneyland Resort can now be discovered with “Disneyland Explorer,”the official Disney Parks app available for iPad. The free app invites parents and kids to explore some of the many thrilling and whimsical experiences that can be found at Disneyland Resort, a premiere, multi-day, family vacation destination in Southern California.

With “Disneyland Explorer,” users can swipe their way from Pirates of the Caribbean to “World of Color” to themed suites at the Disneyland Hotel, discovering more than 100 exciting things to see and do across the resort. Users tap beautiful images, animation and interactive touch points that represent experiences inside Disneyland park, Disney California Adventure park, Downtown Disney District and all three hotels of the Disneyland Resort.

Touch points within the photo-realistic carousel reveal photos, videos and special activities inspired by classic attractions and entertainment.  As users explore the Resort, day changes to night with spectacular colors, lights, and fireworks.

Animations are triggered as users scroll through the parks, hotels and Downtown Disney District, revealing surprises such as Dumbo in flight above Sleeping Beauty Castle. Users  discover items that are both fun and historical, from the Mad Hatter popping out of a tea cup to vintage video of Walt Disney dedicating Disneyland.

Users will:

  • Tour the galaxy with Star Tours – the Adventures Continue
  • Learn to draw their favorite Disney characters at the Animation Academy
  • Create their own musical water show in “World of Color”
  • Steer a Soarin’ hang glider over California, while collecting and sharing personalized postcards
  • Bring the iconic dolls of “it’s a small world” to life and hear the classic song in five different languages
  • Snap photos of the elusive Yeti as he roams across Matterhorn Mountain
  • Take part in a raging sea battle in Pirates of the Caribbean

“Disneyland Explorer” is a free app, available exclusively from App Store on iPad (www.itunes.com/appstore). More of the fun and excitement at the Disneyland Resort will become available on “Disneyland Explorer” throughout the year.

Kinect Disneyland Adventures Gameplay Preview

Disneyland AdventuresDuring our first Disneyland visit we managed to squeeze a little D23 Expo in, including this fun preview of the Disneyland Adventures game for Xbox 360’s Kinect. Santa brought my eldest a Kinect last year, and he has loved playing Dance Central, Kinectimals and Kinect Sports. There are absolutely no controllers for the Kinect, because YOU are the controller. It’s pretty amazing and once you get used to it, a great immersive game experience.

Friend and zannaland correspondent Nicole Siscaretti got to experience Disneyland Adventures first hand, as one of the games creators explains the ins and outs of the game. Things like “you never die in Disneyland” (you just splat and come right back) and how you collect coins and can then purchase costumes for your avatar in Bibiddi Bobbidi Boutique within the game.

Kinect Disneyland Adventures arrives in stores November 15th. Be sure to pick it up for your adventurer or the whole family!

Here are some screenshots of the game to entice you, the created world is just breathtaking!

Phineas and Ferb: Ride Again on Nintendo DS

Phineas and Ferb Ride AgainWith a household of gamers, I had no trouble getting someone to give me their opinion of the new Phineas and Ferb: Ride Again Nintendo DS game I was given to review from Disney Interactive Studios. Here’s what the family thought of the game:

Disney Interactive has delivered a fun game for fans of the popular Disney Channel show Phineas and Ferb; Phineas and Ferb: Ride Again for the Nintendo DS and DSi. The game follows the adventures of the title characters as you guide them through the environments of Danville looking for parts to build various contraptions. There are many mini games to break up the action and keep the game play fresh. You can also download content to share rides and compete against friends.

A personal favorite is a Pac-man style game in which you try to collect screws for a project while steering clear of Candice. After playing through the first level of the game the only complaints were that Perry was relegated to being a “save point” and is not included in the game play elements, although you can play as Agent P. while he battles Dr. D and his robots. Finally, the open style of game play, having no defined path through which to complete a level, may prove to be a little frustrating for younger players.
