It’s Sunday, so another Up the Waterfall episode is up to listen to or watch. We hope you listened to/watched the Up the Waterfall EPCOT Episode Part 1 and EPCOT Part 2. In Part 1 we discussed the original Future World east, including Spaceship Earth, Universe of Energy, World of Motion, and Horizons, along with a bit of Communicore East. In Part 2, we share our thoughts and memories of The Land, The Living Seas, and of course Journey into Imagination. We also head back over to the east side and bring up the Wonders of Life pavilion.

This brings us to Part 3 (video version at bottom of post), where we thought we’d finish up Future World and make it at least halfway round the World Showcase, but alas, we made it to Equatorial Africa, and had to stop there. But never fear, Part 4 will wrap up World Showcase, including a round up of all the World Showcase nighttime shows as well. We’ll then round out what has turned into EPCOT Month with our thoughts on the future of EPCOT, and a bonus episode with our promised Show and Tell from Scott showcasing all of his original EPCOT Center books and ephemera. Whew!

EPCOT International Festival of the Arts – A Must Visit!

Epcot Festival of the Arts I love a good festival. Art, Food, Renaissance, Fools, I’m always up for a festival. I’ve written many times before about the various established Epcot festivals. Originally begun to bolster lower attendance weeks at Walt Disney World, the first modern, well-promoted festival at Epcot was the International Flower and Garden Festival, which began in 1993. I missed the first couple of years, but when I moved down in 1995 and began working for Walt Disney World, it became a tradition to attend. The Flower and Garden Festival always revolved around Mother’s Day and back then, Disney provided a free photo op (much like they also used to at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party). It became a Mother’s Day tradition to attend with my mom, enjoy all the fun topiaries and floral displays, dine in France, and get our photo taken together. Also in 1995, the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival began. I remember how exciting those first years were; being able to stroll around World Showcase and sample smaller bites from countries that may not have a full pavilion, but have some great flavors to offer. It was a fun time.

Now, there are very few “low attendance times” at Walt Disney World. People now plan their visits around the festivals, in order to try the food items, or take part in the many seminars and sessions offered. Another addition over the years was runDisney appearing on the scene, with some races around the festivals, making it even more well-attended. And, of course, Epcot drinking teams also became a thing, giving Food & Wine bit of a reputation for drunken hordes roaming the World Showcase Promenade. That is not to say these festivals are not still enjoyable, just that they have considerably changed over the years, and become an entity unto themselves. As a local, it’s still fun to go on a weeknight and try the foods, or perhaps splurge on a dining event offered. My husband and I did the Parisian Afternoon last year and had a lovely time. There is always something new to see or experience, so you really can get out of the festivals what you want.

Figment Topiary Enter #ArtfulEpcot. Quietly sauntering into the festival scene in the middle of January this year, the Epcot International Art Festival became an INSTANT hit. And I do mean instant. There was very little info provided about this festival far ahead of time. We saw a few photos of “artsy food” which, yes, looked amazing, but I don’t think I was alone when I thought, “oh, it’ll be Food & Wine in February…” and also wondered how they would pull off these artistic food creations under the usually extreme conditions of festival food booths. Then, I walked into Epcot the first Friday it opened, saw a perfectly crafted Figment topiary, complete with two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow, horns of a steer…he really was a lovable fellow. Sorry, it’s impossible for me not to break into song when discussing Figment. Anyway, I sort of fell in love, again, with Epcot.

Of course it was more than just a Figment topiary to make me appreciate this new festival. I attended an event which highlighted the various food creations, merchandise, and entertainment offerings within the festival. Every cast member on hand who spoke about their area of expertise was so passionate and excited. That excitement was contagious, and I soon realized this was something very different from just another festival. As we strolled around Epcot, I saw more and more reasons why this was going to be a big hit.

There are many different types of Disney fan out there. I’ve spoken about what kind I am before, and though there are most certainly no wrong or right type of fan, there are many others like me, who love the history of the Walt Disney Company, the pioneering advances and different thinking that made it succeed, even while it was doomed to fail. We Disney history nerds love the original concept, hopes, and ideals that EPCOT Center stood for both in Walt’s initial idea, and the 1982-1994 incarnation of the theme park once known as EPCOT Center. I have professed my love for this park endless times. That park doesn’t really exist today, but you can see glimpses and sparks of it if you know where to look. As an EPCOT Center fan, it’s completely normal and acceptable behavior to stare at wall carpet, marvel at the ride system within Universe of Energy (Ellen’s Energy Adventure), or watch Impressions de France on repeat, while the rest of the park may be lining up for characters or Frozen or Test Track. That is not to say we can’t also enjoy some of the park’s current lineup. It is to say, we miss original EPCOT and all that it represented to us.

Epcot Festival of the Arts What the Epcot Festival of the Arts has done is found the perfect mix, to entertain the masses, and delight those who dearly miss what EPCOT once was. How? Well, for starters, the entire design of the festival speaks to EPCOT in a modern way. Muted, watercolor style images of park icons, including the original EPCOT Center logo, make my 1980’s heart sing. Figment is the “mascot” of the festival, but not in an annoying, or out of place way. He represents the very spirit of art, appearing in each World Showcase country, in a work of art hailing from the country you are in, only Figment-ized. A perfect way to get kids (and adults) interested in art and seek out more knowledge about the pieces featured, the countries, and art in general. This “scavenger hunt” featuring Figment is actually available as a paid activity. You purchase a Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt map for $6.99 from several possible locations, and then match the Figment artwork to the artwork featured in the World Showcase pavilions. Turn in your map when you’re done, and you’ll get a prize. It’s fun either way!

Speaking of art, there are not one but two mini-galleries of original and concept art at the festival. Artists, Imagineers and Disney Legends Herb Ryman and Mary Blair have their artwork displayed within (another EPCOT Center holdout) the Odyssey restaurant. There we can see huge versions of Ryman’s original concept art for EPCOT and its Future World pavilions, as well as a selection of  Mary Blair’s South American-inspired art pieces. Also within the Odyssey are free – yes FREE – informational sessions from topics like the animation ink and paint process, to different types of tea. There are also paid sessions on specific art topics which include take-home items from the lesson too. As you stroll around World Showcase, there are also classes like origami making or anime drawing in Japan, various chalk displays around the world, and fun photo ops where you become part of a famous work of art. Animation Academy, once held at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, also makes a reappearance in Innoventions during the festival.

The hit of the festival since it opened has been the Paint By Numbers Mural found between Future World and World Showcase. You are given – again, completely free – a tiny cup of paint and a paint brush and told to paint anywhere from 3-5 (depending on how busy it is) squares matching your color to your number. For the first few weekends, it was a Future World image, the full size version of what is available at character meets as the backdrop in the front of Epcot. Last weekend, the mural design was changed to a World Showcase image, which was also a big hit. When the murals are completed, they are changed out for blank canvases and guests can start all over again. It is sponsored by Glidden’s line of Disney-inspired paint names, so that adds for a fun connection.

The seven “Food Studios” (see full list of menu items at that link)as they call the food booths at this event, may be small in number, but the varied items almost all take a unique spin on a classic food item, or highlight favorites with an artistic twist. My favorites were the Classic Reuben, which looks anything but classic with it’s futuristic “rye curl” in place of traditional bread, and the Scallop with Chorizo found in America at The Artist’s Table. Oh, and don’t forget the jaw-dropping Piet Mondrian-inspired cake at Pop Eats! as well as adorable “chocolate easels” which are an edible work of art in the form of Figment, Mickey and Pluto, or Mary Blair designs. Bridging the gap from classic art to modern, there are also many booths around World Showcase, featuring Disney artists and local artisans alike. Many of the artists are on hand to sign their work. It’s a great way to build your art collection with some originals or prints and meet your favorite artists at the same time.

To top off all that this festival has to offer, at the end of the day, Disney on Broadway Concert Series stars appear at the American Gardens Theatre three times a night, perfoming hit songs from the ever-growing catalog of the Disney Broadway productions. As a huge Broadway musical fan, these shows were the perfect fit. I’ve seen two sets of performers and every show was incredible. Such amazing talent. The shows always seem to have a full house too, so I think this series has been very well received.

Word has spread fast online about this incredible festival, which has quickly become my favorite of the Epcot festival lineup. Every aspect of Artful Epcot fills me with joy, and I hope it returns for years to come, running all week long instead of just long weekends. My only fear is that this charming, quaint, interactive festival that offers so much for so many, will lose that charm if it expands too much. However, I’ll put my confidence in the designers behind the scenes to ensure that doesn’t happen. Part of what made the Festival of the Arts such a success is the way it mixed history with present day, classic with modern, and just enough included opportunities that you don’t feel like you have to shell out premium prices (other than a ticket to the park), to experience all this festival has to offer.

There is just one weekend left to the Epcot Festival of the Arts, so I urge you to get down there, get some paint on your hands and chocolate on your face and ENJOY! If you’ve been, I’d love to hear what your favorite part of the festival was or what you hope is added next time around.

Muppetational New Scavenger Hunt at Epcot for Muppets Most Wanted

Over the weekend, I saw a friend on instagram post a photo of a new Muppets Most Wanted-themed scavenger hunt taking place around Epcot’s World Showcase. I grabbed the family and headed over to check it out, because if there’s one thing I love, it’s scavenger hunts, and the Muppets. Oh wait, that’s two things. Actually, there are hundreds of Muppets…so…if there are hundreds of things I love, they’re scavenger hunts and the Muppets! Anyway, I was excited to experience it in person.

We entered through the International Gateway to World Showcase, so I asked at the Agent P. kiosk where to find this Muppet adventure. We were told to head over almost to Mexico, so we did, with some pauses along the way for bunny-checks in Canada’s Victoria Gardens area (we couldn’t find any, so decided they were all inside the tiny cottage) , drooling over the Cronut counter (we were stuffed from Sanaa), and saying hello to Duffy. It’s quite easy to get happily distracted in World Showcase, especially with a 5 year-old in tow. Then we came upon a sign proclaiming it was the MBI – Muppet Bureau of Investigation, and we knew we were in the right place.

Muppet Bureau of Investigation
The sign-up area is located right next to the hydroponics booth for the Flower and Garden Festival, before the bridge to Mexico.

I decided to take photos to chronicle our entire Muppet mission – If you don’t want to read below, let me sum this attraction up for you in a few bullet points:

  • Easy to sign up for and get started (no waiting for a return time)
  • Two options for missions so you can choose a side of the World Showcase to cover (same end result)
  • Only takes about 20 minutes per side (3 country visits per side both ending in America)
  • Keeps the attention-span of small ones (pre-school through elementary would be perfect)
  • Perfect amount of interaction with a sense of accomplishment at the end
  • Muppets!

If you want to be surprised by the clues and the results of our quests, you may want to end your reading now…you’ve been warned! And now, There be spoilers (and evil frogs) ahead!

.

.

.

.

.

.

Okay, now the fun stuff. I LOVED this experience. Unlike the Agent P. adventures, there was not TOO much to do – it is the perfect amount of walking, activity and attention-span capturing for little ones and above. For older kids, sure, they may think it’s kind of easy, but it definitely looks like this temporary quest was some sort of testing to see how it goes. I think it is a great success and hope for more in the future. It is definitely less intrusive as far as beeping, talking cell phones in Agent P’s adventure go. It’s also fun that you have to interact with cast members for this adventure (not sure they appreciate that part, but it’s fun to have to go out of your way to speak to international cast members that you may not have interacted with otherwise).

We started in Germany. You know up front when signing up that your choices are Germany, Italy and America, or the United Kingdom, France, and America. I love that you have the option and that it’s short enough that your whole day isn’t taken over by this adventure.

You look at your MBI booklet and it tells you to look for the world’s oldest and most expensive cuckoo clock. So we headed into the cuckoo clock store and looked around. Soon we discovered the subtle but fun clue. It definitely doesn’t overpower the store taking away from the regular experience of the German pavilion. Once we saw it was a note from Constantine, we opted to read it in his accent (which we have taken to doing around the house anyway, much to the dismay of my 13 year-old daughter). I’m sure the German cast member standing next to me appreciated my excellent Constantine impression.

Muppet Epcot Mission
Go ahead, read it in Constantine’s accent…you know you wanna

We got our sticker and it told us to head to Italy and that we were getting there by train 301. This was important. Our Italy page told us to look for a Gonzo mask in Il Bel Cristalo store. Again, this was subtly done and did not take away from the rest of the store. Italy also had some fun Muppet details. I’m now wondering if we missed any in Germany! There is also now a train schedule posted right next to the Muppet Topiary display between Germany and Italy, showing another reminder of train 301, which you’ll need in Italy.

I LOVE that Gio got to participate in entering our clue (the train number from our last location!) and he loved it too.

Muppet Epcot Mission
Another sign for Gonzo’s mask display. Also, if you have a face statue with a mouth in it, a child is going to stick his fingers in there, it’s Kid Law™

Now our next clue took us to the American pavilion and the end of our mission, so I’m going to show the other two countries of the U.K. and France before ending in America. (We actually worked backwards from France just to see if we could figure out the clues and get the stickers out of order. Thanks to a helpful cast member in France, we were able to do just that.) But I’ll put the details in the proper order below.

Muppet Epcot Mission
Our clue tells us to look for a Queen Gonzo scepter display at Lords and Ladies

Muppet Epcot Mission
Similar to Germany, the clue is missing and tells us to call him…

Muppet Epcot Mission
Sorry, mom gushing moment, but this is…the cutest. Gio was SO intently listening to Constantine’s clue! He told us to look for the one-carat (carrot?) diamond in France…

So we went back to France (not really we started there, shhh) to the perfume shop. I spotted the diamond, cleverly shaped like an actual carrot, a very Muppet-like joke. We are then prompted to enter our code again, this time asking how many carats the diamond is.

Muppet Epcot Mission

Muppet Epcot Mission
The 1-carat carrot diamond in the perfume shop

Muppet Epcot Mission
It took Gio a few tries to remember to put in the 0-0 before the 1. The carrot then lights up red like the Gonzo mask

The cast member in France then told us we had to go to a very scary place – America! We didn’t head back since we already experienced the conclusion of the mission. But here’s how it ends:

The booklet has visual clues like Lady Liberty and hot dogs (Liberty Inn!) but the map shows the check-in point is actually to the right of the American Adventure entrance. There is a kiosk there, where you receive a final sticker, a certificate of completion, making you an official MBI agent, and you are allowed to go behind some landscaping to see…

Muppet Epcot Mission
We captured Constantine! The items he stole are also packed up and ready to be shipped back to their proper countries

Muppet Epcot Mission
The cast member told us he is safely captured in the cage…which, was actually a teeny bit scary for Gio, he did NOT want to pose next to the cage. (There is no motion – but there IS a sound effect, around every 40 seconds or so you may hear “No cage can contain me! I will be back!        Soon!” but we totally missed that when we where there – altho I was talking and trying to get Gio to take a photo so that may be why.)

And that’s that! We had a wonderful time, and even though there weren’t actual Muppets at every turn, it was, I think, perfectly themed and really well done. It will be interesting to see if Gio asks to do the missions again or if it’s a ‘one and done’ kind of experience for him. The MBI Muppet scavenger hunt adventure will be active during the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, through May 18. I’ll update as I get more information. I kept some of the visuals a surprise so you can experience the stickers, the booklet itself, and other details yourself.

I’d love to hear if you’ve experienced this yourself and what you thought. What was your favorite part?

L'Artisan des Glaces The newest snack spot in Epcot’s World Showcase opened today over in the France pavilion. The much anticipated L’Artisan des Glaces ice cream and sorbet shop is now open and serving up 16 flavors of fun – ooh là là!

In the completely refurbished former patisserie area of France, L’Artisan des Glaces is set within a rustic, stone cottage building with turret (as before), but is open and airy inside, giving the feel of a country dairy shop. In fact, there are dairy touches throughout: milk bottles, milk canisters, even a milk bottle chandelier! The set up is different than before, with two registers allowing you to pay first, then choose a cup or a cone and pick your flavor.  You then move down the line to pick up your order.

The 16 flavors available at L’Artisan des Glaces are: Vanilla, Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, Pistachio, Hazelnut, Profiterole, Caramel fleur de sel (salted caramel), Cherry, Coco-White Chocolate, Coffee, and 6 sorbet flavors: Strawberry, Mango, Melon, Lemon, Pomegranate, and Mixed Berries. These flavors are made in-house and may change periodically – I’m hoping for fun seasonal options.

Unique to L’Artisan des Glaces is the adult-only sundae with liquor – 2 scoops of ice cream or sorbet served in a martini glass with a shot of Grand Marnier, Epic brand Whipped Cream Vodka, or Clement Rhum from Martinique for $11.50. One scoop of plain ice cream or sorbet is $3.99 while two scoops are $6.10 and are served in a waffle cone or a cup.

Here is a gallery of the new establishment, sure to be the popular place to be this summer and from now on! What flavor are you going to get first? I’m intrigued by the Profiterole, Hazelnut and Coco-White Chocolate! The sorbets will be so refreshing in the heat as well. Click to enlarge the photos and view as a slideshow:

The 20th annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival has really outdone itself this year with the addition of dining and drinking options at 12 booths around the World Showcase. In addition, there are some special nighttime effects for many of the topiaries, making the Festival a must-visit, day and night. I was so enchanted by a few of these displays, I had to create a special post to share the photos I took at night. I hope you enjoy the gallery of nighttime magic at the Flower and Garden Festival!

Epcot’s 20th Flower & Garden Festival in Full, Delicious Bloom!

Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival This year marks the 20th annual Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, held in both Future World and World Showcase around Epcot, and known for its larger-than-life topiaries of our favorite Disney characters and scenes. This year is a little different, however, because the creators of the festival have added a big bonus this year, in the form of 12 booths featuring Spring-inspired culinary dishes and fruit-infused beers, wines and other adult beverages, as well as some non-alcoholic options. As a fan of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, I think this is a wonderful addition. With 12 booths, it’s not overwhelming to World Showcase, and the offerings are completely unique and new to the Flower & Garden Festival. This addition of food and wine was 5 years in the making, and I think worth every minute of planning. The items offered are focused on fresh, light flavors, or those reminiscent of the coming summer – as found in the Smokehouse area of the American pavilion. I haven’t had a chance to try all the options yet, but so far my favorite was the “Frushi” or fruit sushi – fresh fruit rolled inside coconut rice. It’s not too sweet, it’s just perfect!

As far as the drink options, the biggest buzz is for the Dole Whip with a shot of Siesta Key spiced rum. I gave this a try – for research purposes of course – and it was a very unique experience. Unless you are a huge fan of rum by itself, I recommend mixing it all up so it’s like a frozen drink vs. trying to drink the rum alone. My favorite adult offering of the festival is the sparkling brut with elderflower syrup, found in the German booth. It was so yummy! I’ll let you discover your own favorites as you stroll around the World Showcase promenade – but don’t forget to visit the Festival Center where the Intermissions Cafe has its own set of drinks and snacks to try.

With the addition of the food and wine selections, the Flower & Garden Festival also borrows the passport which is so popular during the Food & Wine Festival. Guests can pick up a Garden Passport at the Festival Center (make sure to get your first stamp there!) and then get a stamp at each garden location and food booth around the festival. It’s a fun activity for adults and kids alike!

Speaking of kids, my 4 year-old tested out all of the kids play areas and gave his thumbs up for the Radiator Springs garden and the Oz garden, both featuring some really fun playground equipment to climb, jump, and explore, as well as comfy seating for parents to supervise. The Tinker Bell and Friends Butterfly House is a perfect theme for the butterfly gardens, and a great learning opportunity with chrysalis collections and new butterflies emerging daily.

Also be sure to check out the Festival Center over in the former Wonders of Life pavilion, for some great hands-on demonstrations and seminars from the festival sponsor, HGTV. I got to see a sneak peek of some of the seminars from HGTV stars, and guests were learning about some great planting tips and even getting to plant their own little garden starter. The Festival Center also features the fun new Epcot Flower and Garden merchandise for the 2013 – including the Vera Bradley and Disney handbag preview.

Later today I’ll be featuring some of the amazing nighttime gardens, which are another plus this year at the festival and gives some areas an entirely different look than in the day. Until then, because of the sheer number of topiaries, food, play areas, and more at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, I made a flickr set to share all the photos I took. I didn’t include photos of everything…you’ll need to get over to Epcot and check out all the delicious fun in person! Right now there over 200 photos in the see. Enjoy!

And don’t forget the Flower Power concert series, featuring some classic acts which are the perfect accompaniment to the flowers and food found around Epcot. I got a chance to meet Micky Dolenz of The Monkees, and he was thrilled to be a part of the concert series, and hopes to return each year. I hope to see you around the World Showcase lagoon and all of Epcot, enjoying all there is to see at the 20th International Flower and Garden Festival!

Epcot’s Candlelight Processional Adds a New Story to its Christmas Tradition

The beautiful and moving Candlelight Processional is now a favorite tradition each holiday season. Each celebrity narrator adds their own touch and something special to the Christmas story as they speak the words we all know so well. This year I was able to enjoy both Neil Patrick Harris and Lea Salonga, both very different, but wonderful in their own right.

Candlelight Processional

In between the Christmas story pieces, the talented orchestra and Voices of Liberty singers join a Cast Member chorale and area high school students to bring traditional holiday favorite songs to life. The songs are a perfect mix of classics which move you and fill you with the spirit of the season. This year, a new story prefaced Silent Night, adding to the rich tapestry of the candlelight performance. We were told about a town without an organ and a man who wrote a poem to welcome the birth of Jesus. The man’s son could play the guitar, but only 4 chords, and thus Silent Night was born.

At the end of each performance, I am left filled with joy and appreciation for the true meaning of the holiday. It is a must-do for anyone visiting Walt Disney World during the holiday season. The best bet for guaranteed seats is purchasing a Candlelight Dining Package, available by calling 407-WDW-DINE. Several shows remain this season, be sure to head out to see this beautiful spectacle.

STAY COOL WEEK: Top 5 Ways to Stay Cool in Epcot

9 July 2012 by Suzannah Otis 1 Comment

Epcot's Club Cool This week on Zannaland we’re going to tackle the best ways to keep cool in the sweltering Florida heat and humidity. There are of course lots of air conditioned havens throughout the parks, but I thought it would be fun to list some ways to keep cool in-between those attractions, restaurants and shops. Let’s start off our tour with Epcot!

1. Club Cool – everyone’s favorite spot to grab a free soda sample and try some new soft drinks from around the world! Club Cool is the perfect halfway point between Future World and World Showcase and a great place to pause for a quick drink if you need a little more buzz than plain water. Of course it’s also a great place to snap some fun photos or video of unsuspecting first-timers as they try “Beverly” the famous Italian apéritif isn’t the sweet soda most people are expecting. For those wanting more than a sample, Club Cool also offers full-sized sodas and drinks as well as frozen slushies.

2. Innoventions – There are some fun activities to do for any age inside both Innoventions East and West. My family loves playing the Great Piggy Bank Adventure and asks to go back again and again. There’s also “Where’s the Fire” fire safety game and video game testing on the west side. Over on the east side you can test out your own virtual coaster at the Sum of All Thrills, prepare for hurricanes in Storm Struck, play around in some home safety testing areas, or the newest exhibit – Vision House, a 25-minute escorted tour inside a smart home of the future. There’s also plenty of seating in each side of Innoventions, for families that want to let older kids play while the parents rest for a bit in the cool.

Stave Church in Norway 3. World Showcase museums – We’ve all been to the countries around World Showcase; restaurants, shops, even some outdoor shows or movies to experience. However many countries also have some sort of cultural exhibit or museum which may be overlooked by guests rushing to the next attraction. Morocco has a beautiful Gallery of Arts and History, which I admit I’d never visited until last summer during a scavenger hunt! Japan has an ever-changing museum of cultural exhibits at the Bijutsu-kan Gallery, which has featured spirit animals in Japanese art and culture for the last couple of years. It’s often overlooked and a really fun way to see other cultures and how they affect us all. Norway has the Stave church, which, while tiny, is a nice respite from the heat and has interesting representations of early Vikings, all inside a beautifully carved wooden structure. China has an amazing display of the Terracotta Army found near Xi’an, China, along with some other cultural artifacts. Also, even if you aren’t going to the American Adventure (but why wouldn’t you go?!) you can check out the National Treasures exhibit inside the American pavilion and learn something new while you beat the heat.

4. Water play areas – Made for kids to cool off? Sure. But adults can run through and cool down too! There’s the little splash area between Future World and World Showcase that’s always fun to run through and see if you can stay dry (but if you don’t, you get cool!). My favorite, the jumping fountains, can be found over by Journey into Imagination. I cannot tell you the number of days and nights I would stand there as a child and get completely soaked as I intercepted one of the leaping sprays of water. There was many a time I rode Horizons dripping wet and I didn’t care a single bit. Of course, that part is not possible now, but my point is, it’s hot enough that you won’t stay wet long and you’re on vacation, what’s the harm in a little water if it keeps you cool?! If you’d rather stay dry, there are always places to sit while you watch the little ones get drenched.

5. Snacks to keep cool – I have a confession to make: I’m really not a fan of Mickey Bars in the summer. Maybe it’s the mom in me but all I see is a messy, melting, chocolatey mess in the Florida sun. So that’s not my choice for frozen treat in the parks. My favorite go-to snack to cool down in Epcot is the kaki gori in Japan. These snow cones are unrivaled in terms of yumminess and the only thing that actually cools me down without making a huge mess at the same time. There are also frozen slushie places scattered around the park, and frozen alcoholic drinks for those looking for an extra kick.

Japan in Epcot

Of course, remember to stay hydrated with water (TIP: you can usually get a free ice water in any counter service location), covered in sunscreen, and stop to rest and cool off every now and then. During this extreme heat, it’s a great time to discover some hidden treasures that may just become your family’s favorites.

Do you favorite place to keep cool in Epcot?

Stay tuned tomorrow for more ways to keep cool at Walt Disney World!
