Disney Prom Remember your prom? Check out this new film from Disney and see how the more times change, the more they stay the same –

At “Prom,” every couple has a story and no two are exactly alike. Several intersecting stories unfold at one high school as the big dance approaches; “Prom” portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite.

For Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden), it’s a battle of wills as she finds herself drawn to the guy (Thomas McDonell) who gets in the way of her perfect prom. Fellow seniors Mei (Yin Chang) and Tyler (De’Vaughn Nixon) harbor secrets, while others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events.

There are hundreds of nights in high school, but there’s only one “Prom.” Featuring an emerging ensemble cast and a powerful soundtrack, “Prom” hits theaters April 29, 2011.

Transformation and Rebirth – The Crimson Wing Guest Review

16 November 2010 by Ryan P. Wilson 1 Comment

Great thanks to Ryan P. Wilson, Editor-in-Chief at the amazing resource that is the Main Street Gazette. I have written before about how much I love his site and am honored to have him writing a couple of guest posts here at ZannaLand. Please welcome him and enjoy his inspiring review of Disneynature’s The Crimson Wing —

The Crimson Wing Documentaries seek to tell a story, for nature documentaries that story is even more critical to advancing the story and the cause of the natural world presented within the film’s frames. The third release from Disneynature, and the first not shown on the big screen in the United States, is perfectly aware that the story is what resonates with audiences.

The Crimson Wing follows the life cycle of flamingos in Central Africa. From the journeys that bring these creatures hundreds and thousands of miles to salt saturated Lake Natron to mate in a sea of ruby feathers to the birth, hardships, and flight of fledgling flamingos, The Crimson Wing is awash with intriguing questions and relatable lessons of life. In most animal documentaries the individuals the film focuses upon are given names to assist in connecting the audience with the creature. While a single flamingo is central to the tale, no names are given in The Crimson Wing, a welcome sign that the filmmakers respect the intelligence of those viewing the narrative in front of them.

Frame for frame, I would have to say that The Crimson Wing is one of the most beautiful features ever shot. The scarlet mirror that is Lake Natron, flamingos flying across the moon and storm clouds, a single chick being encouraged to break free of its shell, red stains on a salt island, and even our heroine streaking across the top of the water and lifting off into the sky are only a few of the astounding images captured to convey the remarkable tale. The film also features the melodious narration of Mariella Frostrup, one of three women voices considered almost perfect by a study from Post Office Telecoms.

Because of the longstanding tradition of nature films associated with the Disney name, the films from Disneynature have often been compared, rightly or wrongly, to Walt Disney’s True Life Adventures. While the stories of both Earth and Oceans, Disneynature’s two previous releases, have found their own paths to tug at viewers heartstrings their expansive subject matter cannot dedicate enough screen time to the individual chapters. The Crimson Wing, with its dedicated subject matter, most accurately resembles the True Life Adventures. The narrative features an exotic locale, an unheralded but recognizable lead creature, triumph, heartbreak, and mysteries stemming from both the flamingos and their birthplace.

In its opening, The Crimson Wing relates the thread that ties flamingos to the myth of the phoenix. In a similar fashion, The Crimson Wing burns brightly with all the elements needed to make a nature documentaries rise from the ashes. While not a movie for every viewer, The Crimson Wing is a remarkable show that reminds me of features I watched as a child with my parents, making it a perfect addition for nature loving families of this generation.

…

You can check out a trailer and clips of The Crimson Wing, which is available now on Blu-Ray, DVD and movie download. Ryan will be back soon with a review of Disneynature’s Oceans, so be sure to stay tuned.

Disney Store Times Square NYC Behind the Scenes With Jodi Benson

Disney Store Times Square Unlock Imagination Today’s post is brought to you by fellow Disney fan and friend, Jennifer Meyering. Jennifer may be found with other Walt Disney World planning experts at their fan site – Disney Dream Depot. Each week they put on a web chat on Disney topics and share their advice with readers and viewers alike. She was recently chosen by Jim Fielding, the Disney Store President and favorite among Disney twitter fans, to experience a special backstage tour of the brand new Times Square Disney Store before its official grand opening. I asked Jen to share her family’s experience here with us – be sure to watch the accompanying slide show with pictures from the event! Enjoy!

I recently had one of the most amazing experiences I could have ever imagined– a Behind-the-Scenes look of the new Times Square Disney Store! I was able to have this wonderful experience courtesy of the Disney Store President (Jim Fielding) and a contest he had on Twitter. I won entrance into the very limited space D23 event at the new Disney store on November 7.

The event was a pre-opening behind-the-scenes look of the new store that included a continental breakfast, remarks by Jim Fielding, and the chance to meet Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid. It was everything, and more, that you would expect.

My Favorite TRON:Legacy Clip So Far – “Long Time” and NEW TRON Trailer

TRON Legacy I will admit that just a few months ago I’d never even seen the original TRON film. My husband had always loved it and I had bought him little collectible figures over the years, but never really knew what the fuss was. I finally watched the movie and while it is of course dated, I could definitely see the cult appeal and the amazing technology it used at the time. It is pretty cool and has stood the test of time in that regard. Now with 2010 advancements in film and special effects, TRON: Legacy promises to pick up where TRON left off, but in a bigger, better (stronger, faster?) way.

However, not to be lost in the world of computerized technology, TRON: Legacy is at its roots the story of a father and son, which is perhaps why this next clip appealed to me so much. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still stoked to be surrounded by cool glowing costumes and light cycles set to an original Daft Punk score, but without a story, there is nothing. Press play to watch this clip below and see if you agree:

Disney Tangled Rapunzel Disney just sent over these clips from their new animated feature film Tangled and I actually rushed to update here and share them with you, they are that great!

The first video – a vignette entitled “Grounded For Life” actually made me laugh out loud. This was a great little piece put together by Disney that really endears you to Rapunzel and her plight. I’m sure kids and tweens can relate to their own not-quite-so-severe groundings!

Get TANGLED With a Rapunzel Pasta Trick for Your Little Princess!

Tangled Rapunzel Princess Pasta I was flipping through the November issue of Parents magazine, and this little article in the “Time for Fun | Play With Your Food” section caught my eye! I Thought I’d share it for all those with little ones who are as excited as we grown-ups about Disney’s upcoming animated feature Tangled! I’m sure even the little prince’s out there would love this fun twist on pasta.

Here’s what Parents magazine says to do:

“Boil a handful of angel-hair (capellini) pasta plus a few green bow ties (farfalle), and toss in butter or olive oil. Place angel hair on a plate as shown, and decorate with a bow tie. “

I’m going to try this out with my princess and two princes, I hope you will too!

Rapunzel Tangled princess pasta recipe

Don’t forget Disney’s Tangled opens in theatres on November 24 – when Rapunzel will let her hair down with her best friend Pascal the chameleon, Flynn Rider and Max the horse!

Disney Thanksgiving Crafts, Decorating, Games and More!

Last year I shared some of my family’s favorite Thanksgiving Day crafts, so I thought I’d repeat the tradition this year with some new ideas from Family.com and Disney’s Family Fun magazine.

Disney Thanksgiving planner
Of course, with Thanksgiving, the key is planning and organization and what better way to achieve that than a Disney Thanksgiving Planner. Organize your menu, shopping list and turkey day schedule. Download, print and start planning!

Disney Chip and Dale Thanksgiving basket I love taking time each year (and more often than just Thanksgiving of course) to give thanks for all our blessings. This Chip & Dale Thanksgiving Basket is a fun way to turn those thanks into memories. Just print out the template and follow the instructions to make your own basket and fill it up. It would be great to pass the basket around the table and share what everyone is most thankful for. It might be the only time of the year that siblings admit they are thankful for each other!

Disney checkers printable

Once the turkey and stuffing are gone, relax with a nice game of checkers – Mickey checkers of course! Print out the game pieces and let the fun begin!

These are just a few of the great ideas available. Be sure to check out my family’s past Thanksgiving table decor as well as the whole Disney Thanksgiving printables page at Family.com and the myriad Thanksgiving crafts that await.

Happy November and happy crafting!

Hidden Pixar References in “Day & Night” + Toy Story 3 Coupon for DVD+Blu-Ray

Day and Night One of my favorite parts of Disney•Pixar films are the shorts we get to enjoy before the feature. Day & Night was no exception, with its unique and endearing take on the differences that can unite us.

With Toy Story 3 set to be released next week on DVD, I thought I’d bring you some behind-the-scenes info on the making of the film, as well as some fun facts (like hidden easter eggs within the film referencing other Pixar productions) about the short.

For those who have not seen Toy Story 3 in theatres yet, here is a synopsis of Day & Night and a Question and Answer session from Director Teddy Newton:

When Day, a sunny fellow, encounters Night, a stranger of distinctly darker moods, sparks fly! Day and Night are frightened and suspicious of each other at first, and quickly get off on the wrong foot. But as they discover each other’s unique qualities–and come to realize that each of them offers a different window onto the same world—the friendship helps both to gain a new perspective.
Running time: 6 minutes

How Do You Pronounce Karamell-Küche? Simple: Delicious!

karamelle kuche cupcakes Or scrumptious, or heavenly…any of those adjectives will work. All joking aside, if you really want to know how to pronounce küche, just click to listen. And now you know. Ok, housekeeping aside, lets get to the good stuff! Pictures of yummy caramel creations!

While I can in no way compete with the amazing coverage of all things food-related at Disney from AJ at the Disney Food Blog, I also could not resist taking pictures to share while inside Epcot’s newest siren of sugar, Karamell-Küche. Located within the Germany pavilion at Epcot’s World Showcase. If you are a fan of caramel, you will quite simply, have reached nirvana when you step inside. And it’s not just caramel hard candies that the shop’s sponsor, Werther’s is most known for here in the states. There are caramel dipped apples covered in chocolate, caramel and chocolate fudge, caramel-filled cookies, caramels rolled with marshmallow, caramel-infused cupcakes. It’s everywhere.

As if that weren’t enough, the good folks at Karamell-Küche have seen fit to give us another gift – caramel coated popcorn which words alone cannot describe, you simply must try it. It is the perfect mix of buttery caramel crunchy perfection. Sadly the day I walked in they had just started to make a new batch so I don’t have any fun pictures of them mixing up the popcorn, (darn, guess I’ll have to go back!) but when you queue up to place your order, you walk by the huge copper bowls where they are mixing the heavenly concoction. There’s that word again – heavenly! It truly is. At only $2.95 for a small bag or $5.95 for a large one, it’s also the best new snack value in Epcot, in my opinion!

What follows are some of the items available that day. I urge you to take the time to wait in line and experience these wonders for yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
