Vera Bradley Partners With Disney for New Handbags and Accessories

That’s right, Disney has done it again, partnering with an extremely popular fashion brand to make a winning combination of style and whimsy. With the incredible success of the Disney Dooney & Bourke collaboration, it’s no surprise that Vera Bradley was next in line for a Disney twist. I know as I walked through the parks, Vera Bradley is what I see most aside from the Disney Dooneys. Now, I think the parks will be a colorful, floral explosion of Disney fun!

For those unfamiliar with Vera Bradley, the designs are known for floral and bold, colorful prints in a soft fabric style. Each bag usually has as much function as it does form, with pockets for cell phones, strap options, and, best of all – they are machine washable! I know that is a big concern with accessories you take on a vacation, especially to Disney Parks where bags can take a beating getting put in and out of attractions. I think the Vera Bradley and Disney partnership will be a long and successful one!

Here is some more information from Steven Miller’s Disney Parks Blog post today:

Disney Theme Park Merchandise worked closely with Vera Bradley to develop two new patterns that will appear on items this fall. I spoke with Cathy Dawson, merchandiser for accessories at Disney Parks, about these colorful additions. “We are thrilled to introduce Vera Bradley to our accessories assortment,” exclaimed Cathy.

“In recent years, we’ve seen several guests in our parks and resorts sporting fun, colorful bags by Vera Bradley. Even our Disney Cruise Line team recently added some items by Vera Bradley to the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. We thought it would be wonderful to add a splash of Disney to these popular and colorful accessory items.”

The new Disney-inspired patterns have names, which is something Vera Bradley does for all of their patterns. Cathy said the black pattern is called “Midnight with Mickey,” while the pink pattern is named “Just Mousing Around.” These patterns will be seen on duffel bags, totes, cosmetic bags and more.

When released this fall, guests will find these items at select locations in Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. They will also be sold via the Disney Parks online store at a future date.

What do you think of the new collaboration? Are you a current Vera Bradley fan or will this make you a convert?

With the incredible success of Disney’s past make-up partnerships – the Villains collection, various Urban Decay sets like the new Oz eyeshadow sets,  and the Disney Princesses cosmetics collections, currently available at Sephora, Disney has now created its very own line, exclusive to Disney Parks. In the same vein as the extremely popular designer handbag lines – Disney Dooney & Bourke, LeSportsac and Harvey’s bags, I think this make-up line is going to be a huge hit – “coordinating cosmetic bags and beauty tools”?! sign me up! I know I can’t wait to see it in person – we’ll update you when Beautifully Disney appears!

BeautifullyDisney

Here’s the official word from Disney: Beautifully Disney, a new collection of cosmetics and beauty products for women, is coming exclusively to Disney Parks. The character inspired collection is the first of its kind for Disney Parks and has been developed to evoke the spirit, beauty, and fantasy of all things Disney. Beautifully Disney provides a rich color collection for lip, eyes, and nail at an exceptional quality level. Through character and storytelling on the cosmetic packaging, Disney Parks guests will be able to choose from their favorite films and characters in various moods. The range will provide a broad expanse of classic colors as well as some fashion forward trend colors that are complementary to the spectrum of skin tones. Coordinating cosmetic bags and beauty tools will round out the initial Beautifully Disney offering to create a truly immersive beauty statement. Beautifully Disney will be available this spring at select retail locations including Tren-D at Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. and Disney Vault 28 at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Ca.

Families Look to Vacations to Rediscover Each Other According to Disney Survey

It’s not often I like to just post press releases without my own personal take on them, however this release just appeared on my doorstep and I think the information is just perfect as is, and an important message to relay to all of us Disney Parks fans out there. We all grew up going on family vacations of some sort or another, whether it was going to a Disney Park, packing up the car and heading to the beach or local lake, summer was a time for carefree rediscovery with your family. Sure, you probably fought with your brother or sister and your parents threatened to “turn this car around!” a few times, but the end result was wonderful memories that turned us into the people we are today. And if by chance you didn’t have that background of family vacations, it’s even more important to gift your own children with those memories that last a lifetime. I know the vacation that stands out the most for me is our family drive from Massachusetts to Walt Disney World, in 1983. It sparked the Disney magic that courses through my veins today and is truly a highlight of my childhood. And as was shared last year during the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, we only have 18 summers with our children. Treasure them, and make even more of that time with travel throughout the year when you can. Let’s check out all the official statistics, because don’t we all need a little more Disney Time? —

DisneyTimeSurvey LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.  Feb. 20, 2013- Between long work hours, busy after school schedules and countless distractions, today’s American family is feeling more disconnected than ever – creating a deficit in “quality time” amongst U.S. parents and their children.

The solution? According to the Disney Time Survey, a blind study conducted by Kelton – a leading research firm – quality family time not only increases while on vacation but parents and children say they learn something new about one another during this time, as opposed to when at home.

More than 1,000 parents of children age 5-17 participated in the Disney Time Survey, which asked families to think about and share thoughts on quality time when at home – versus when on vacation.

So, how do parents define quality time? Ninety-one percent of parents report that quality time is achieved when they learn something new about their child, while 84 percent of parents say quality time means their child learned something new about them. From favorite to least favorite activities and food, to details about their children’s friends – the survey found that moms and dads saddled by hectic lifestyles are craving more time together with their kids.

We’re Busy!

Time is precious – and fleeting – and for many parents, scarce.

  • Out of 52 weeks a year, on average, parents surveyed admit that they have only 15 “free” weekends – i.e. “no plans.” Further, 13 percent say they have no free weekends.
  • Seventy-one percent of parents would love more time with their kids – up to nine hours more a week, specifically.
  • Ninety-six percent of parents would give up at least one thing for a year to spend just one extra hour with their children every week, such as a favorite TV show/sports/game (78 percent), the internet (74 percent), shopping (74 percent), sleeping late (69 percent), a favorite hobby (64 percent), even coffee (59 percent).

Solution? Go on Vacation!

The findings present vacations as a key way to cultivate family bonding and strengthen quality time.

  • Ninety-seven percent of parents say that their children have gotten to know new things about them while taking family trips, including more about their parents’ childhoods (86 percent) or facts about other family members (74 percent).
  • Almost one in two parents feel that out of all the time they spend with their children, only half of it, at most, could be classified as “quality time.” However, while on vacation, parents report that 82 percent of time would fall in the “quality time” category.
  • When they do vacation together, the whole family is inclined to be more excited (77 percent), relaxed (75 percent), silly (68 percent), calm (54 percent) and even more affectionate (54 percent).
  • Parents report eating an average of 10 meals with their children in a typical week at home. However, when on a seven-day vacation, families say they almost double the number of meals they eat together (19 meals vs. 10 meals) – and 68 percent claim they would eat all 21 meals (three meals per day) as a family.

Family Travel: Looking Ahead

As part of the study commissioned for Disney Parks, parents were asked to share some vacation habits and places of interest. Family travel is set for growth over the next five years, findings showed.

  • More than eight in ten (82 percent) respondents who have taken family vacations reveal that they will take the same amount of, if not more, vacations in the next five years. Further, 94 percent of parents think it’s important for families to take vacations together on a regular schedule.
  • When asked to pick one specific location where they felt their family would have the best time on vacation, top responses in terms of type were theme park, beach, cruises and camping, respectively.
  • Parents also highlighted Florida, specifically Orlando, Hawaii and California as top destinations for family vacations.

Disney asked Kelton to conduct the survey to better understand the value parents believe vacations bring to their families.

“We know vacations are important, but to have parents validate how important vacation time is to their families was insightful,” said Leslie Ferraro, executive vice president of global marketing for Disney Parks.  “As we’ve learned from families who participated in the survey, those moments of quality family time can feel fleeting in our everyday home lives.  At Disney Parks, families enter a different kind of time – where the entire family can relax and be a kid – Disney Time.”

This year, Disney Time gets an extra sprinkling of pixie dust as Disney Parks celebrates Limited Time Magic, featuring special and new experiences every week aimed at creating memories to last a lifetime.

Survey Methodology
The Disney Time Survey was conducted by Kelton between January 8 and January 21, 2013 among 1,004 American parents of children ages 5-17, using Random Digit Dialing of listed and unlisted numbers. Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the level of the percentages expressing the results. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 3.1 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample. The margin of error for any subgroups will be slightly higher.

Instagram Lets You Create and Enjoy Insta-Disney!

Instagram zannaland It’s no secret that social media is an amazing way to connect with friends, make new friends, and in the case of bloggers, keep in touch with readers and reach new ones. The major networks are of course, Facebook, twitter, and most recently, Pinterest and tumblr have joined the mainstream. It may seem hard to keep up with all of the outlets out there, so you might decide to be a “Facebook person” or a “twitter person” much like people are dog people or cat people. (Have I mentioned I have a dog and a cat at home?) I do use both, but I will admit to having a definite preference toward twitter. It’s quick, it’s easy and it’s much easier for me to follow along on twitter than Facebook’s ever-changing news feed format. I will always update my Facebook page with photos and links from posts here, and if I’m at an event, try to add more photos too. If you click on any of those photos, you’ll most likely see where they originate – Instagram.

Cinderella Castle clock While I’m confessing my social additions, I will shout from the Splash Mountain-top that I am completely addicted to Instagram. Perhaps more shocking, I actually got an iPhone a little over a year ago, predominantly because of wanting to use Instagram. Embarrassing? Maybe, but I own it. Taking photos is something I’ve always loved and Instagram is a great way to get those photos in neat little square packages, and, just for fun, add filters and frames to make the photos unique. Instagram gets a lot of flack online, among those who say “why do you want to make photos taken today look like they were taken in 1978” and complain that Instagram (and other photo apps) mess with a good thing by editing photos too much.

Tilt-shift Big Thunder by @otisney
This tilt-shift Big Thunder Mountain Railroad taken by @otisney on Instagram

Well, my personal opinion is that, as a local, I may have taken approximately 1971 photos of Cinderella Castle, and while it never gets old for me, I like to shake things up. Instagram and other photo apps make it easy and fun to focus on one castle spire, or close-up on the clock, do a tilt-shift of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, all sorts of FUN stuff. And, within the Instagram app lies a whole other community, connected by hashtags and common friends, of people that support and enjoy photos as much as you do. It really is a wonderful place. And you can in turn share the photos you create on Instagram over on twitter or Facebook or tumblr or even Flickr and Foursquare. It’s so easy. (And I mentioned fun, right?) One note of caution: many people feel like using social networks in the parks can lead to missing out on what’s going on around you. As someone who is guilty of that, I’ve come up with a sort of solution. I will take photos along the way, but still enjoy everything that’s happening and not get too engrossed in my phone. Then later, when we stop for a break, I’ll edit and post the photos then. It makes for a nice balance where you aren’t spending the entire visit with your head down in your phone.

Over time, I’ve downloaded quite the collection of photo editing apps, for making photos pop or adding some sparkles here and there, and it’s become quite an art form in its own right. Of course other times I just want to share a photo of my cat or my kids being silly. That’s the great part about Instagram, there are no rules. Another great part of the Instagram community are the hashtags, just like on twitter using a tag like this: #disney will allow you to find lots of other photos using that tag, and ensure your photo is seen by more people. It’s also fun to go back and look at hashtags later on and relive the memories you created. My friends, family and I have taken to using “#widdlebabygio” every time we post a photo of my youngest – just looking back on that set of photos puts a huge smile on my face. The use of hashtags then leads to other fun stuff, like photo challenges.

WhimsicalDisneyGram Many people on Instagram start monthly photo-a-day challenges encouraging folks to use their creativity and be committed to posting at least one photo a day, based on the daily topic. This of course branches out into various fandoms, and the Disney fandom on Instagram is huge. My very sparkly and also Instagram-addicted friend, Nicole, from SparklyEverAfter.com and I came up with our very own photo challenge, and this month we’re focusing on the whimsical aspects of Disney (or anything else, you won’t get scolded for using other subject matter!).

Our hashtag for this challenge is #WhimsicalDisneyGram and there you can see all of the daily topics and the photos participants have created. February just started and we’ve already seen some amazing content! So if you haven’t tried Instagram before, give it a go, you just may fall in love! And if you’re already up there, look me up – I’m @zannaland, Nicole is @sparklynicole and you’ll find so many other Disney friends there too! Nicole and I would love to have you take part in our February photo adventure, with more to come each month! No pressure, just drop in and out as you please, and have fun!

I hope to see you ‘gramming soon!

The Tinker Bell Disney Dooney & Bourke Bags are perhaps the most asked-about designs of all the Disney Dooneys to date. I SO wish they’d release them as a regular bag as well, but until then, you can snag one by registering for the 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland – taking place January 19-20 next year. By extremely popular demand, runDisney has decided to re-release the commemorative Tink Dooney & Boourke purses that it sold for the inaugural Tinker Bell Half Marathon in Disneyland.

Tink Dooney and Bourke

More photos of the bags at last year’s Tinker Bell Half Marathon post – the design is the same with a new 2013 commemorative hang tag.

Purses must be pre ordered through Active.com by a registered participant. Only 2 bags per person. This should eliminate some of the issues from last year, where bags sold out in minutes!

Prices:

$92.00 – Dooney & Bourke Wristlet
$209.00 – Dooney & Bourke Cross Body Purse
$246.00 – Dooney & Bourke Small Shopper

Purses must be picked up at the Disneyland Hotel event merchandise location on Friday, January 18th (11am – 7pm) or Saturday, January 19th (9am – 5pm). Any Dooney & Bourke Purses not picked up at the Expo will not be mailed and will not be refunded. Quantities are limited.

Don’t forget to check DisneyStore.com for sales of select current released Disney Dooney & Bourke purses and Zannaland’s Disney Dooney & Bourke page with ALL handbag photos and info.

*DisneyStore.com links are affiliate links, which means it costs you nothing extra to click or buy, but if you do, I get a small commission. Thanks for reading!

LeSportsac’s collaboration with Disney, using Mary Blair-inspired designs under the “it’s a small world” moniker, is quickly gaining popularity just like the Disney Dooney & Bourke collection has done for the past few years. With the success of the initial summer Disney LeSportsac line, the Fall and Winter line started appearing in Disney parks as well as being available for purchase online.

I was recently in TrenD at Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney Marketplace, and saw many of the new Winter London collection for sale:

Disney LeSportsac Winter 2012 London
Everyday bag with charm – $98

Disney LeSportsac Winter 2012 London
Kasey letter carrier with charm – $48

Disney LeSportsac Winter 2012 London
Mini Basic Backpack with charm – $78

Disney LeSportsac Winter 2012 London
Picture Tote in the “Time to Share” pattern with charm – $148

Keep an eye out for more of these cute designs showing up at a Disney park near you!
